What did you do in the garden today?

Been raining here for a week. I got into some fire ants this morning. I tired to driwn the one on my hands i attempted to drowned them in a bucket of water. No help. The bucket full of rain water. I wish i had a organic method to rid them. Guinnies (spell?) possibly? African ant eaters?

I get garden envy every time I read this thread! We are in zone 7A so no hot weather veggies to plant till mid May.

We finished putting together our new greenhouse. It took us 2 weeks. we have to level the spot where it will sit but I put my starts into it. It's a Solexx 8x12. we are squeezing it in between the pool and the chicken run. I plan on brooding my chicks in it next spring.

I also tied up the berry canes and transplanted a few strawberries that had escaped from their patch, I have 100 "Hood" strawberries starts that need to get planted and also 50(ish) fiddle head ferns that we hope will eventually be enough that we can harvest and eat them. The snow/pod pea area is ready and I,ll plant some this coming week.

Our asparagus bed is still going strong, maybe two more weeks of harvesting. The bed is four years old and this is the first year we had enough to share some with friends. I estimate we got about 35 pounds from our 16x3 foot bed.

I'm eager to get my hot weather plants in too. . . .Zone 5 or Zone 6 here depending on the map . . . . cool nights ahead this week with some rain. . . . .lots of other things to plant though that like cool!!

Got the first tilling done today...still too wet to be in the garden, so had to till barefooted as my shoes were just mud balls after the first pass. Just got the sod broken up a bit this time. It's going to rain for the next couple of days, so not sure when I'll be able to get in there to till again.

Waiting on loads of wood chips, as I'm trying a Back to Eden garden this year....I'm really excited about that! Have put in wooden fence posts around the garden but need to trim them and put up the fencing yet, plus make some gates from cattle panels.

Seedlings are up...got them in a week late, so will probably have to plant them later than I usually do.

Yea, they are great neighbors otherwise so it's not something I want to cause a problem over! Especially since he is trying, but that just have a lot of projects going on since their house was so run down.

Just bought some wildlife netting from Lowe's for the top of the new chicken run we're working on building, so we're going to test out the leftovers with the neighbor's chickens and some plants. If it works, we're going to use it as a temporary net until we can set up a nicer welded wire fence. It's going to be a while before the permanent fence goes in, our garden is 20ftx100ft and that's a lot of posts!

first time trying to be a gardener. Trying not to screw it up. There are a bunch of dwarf sunflowers as well as a flower rocket? As seen on tv haha and a chunk of asparagus root bulb thing I shoved in a pot with some soil. More to come as I have corn carrots and a few bee garden packets to plant from yards brewing bee saving program

Lol some of the kale is in the dirt. We'll be planting more kale, broccoli, lettuce, and carrots over the next few days.

OMG that is the size that my mother had in the 1970's. Surrounded by 12foot poles and covered with chicken wire to keep out he DEER!!! Now deer area an extreme problem compared to then and all her shrubs are nubs!!! lol SO ya, that is a BIG garden to make chicken proof!! lol

There are advantages to having 5 acres. First being a large garden to support us, the chooks, and our indoor pets!

We have 50ft of the 100ft length devoted to varieties of melon, pumpkin, and gourds.

This is the plan for the garden as of right now. Sorry for the overlapping screens, but it's just too large to fit on one screen. I really like this planner, it auto-spaces the plants for you. It will probably end up looking a bit different, but it's worth a shot!
