What did you do in the garden today?

I don't till/dig either raised beds with leaf, rabbit/chicken compost (use paper, wood pellets, and sometimes straw for bedding) lawn clippings, coffee grounds. ( Roses get the banana peels) When I first started my raised bed (shovel breaking clay) use to buy moldy alfalfa hay in fall winter wheat cover crop on top of it nice in fluffy by spring. Slug control I attack them with an army oyster shell, dryer lint, dog hair, coarse gravel, and salt shaker. Can't use beer or yeast traps the dog loves the stuff, he'll even eat the fermented chicken feed. Been in the 80's above normal temps. for this time of year, no rain. Stay safe

Had some fairytale pumpkins volunter back. I will plant more first part of July. Along with some others. Any off the volunteered plant may not last thru the fall season.

Went to gardens of my MIL and a friend, dug lots of plants to take to a plant sale tomorrow. Need to do digging from my yard this afternoon for the same project. Proceeds will fund our mission trip to Guatemala. I'm exhausted!

Rain rain rain . Hard to get much done between rains . Pulled a few radishes and picked some asparagus . Checked the plums , cherries , apricot and peach trees . Good crop on all . Pear tree is too early to be sure but looks like some will set . I have a pollination problem on this one . It seems the wild flowering pear may have overlapped bloom time . My pollinator pear is not old enough to bloom yet . Maybe next year .

I didn't do much of nuthin today.

Watered some tomatoes and fooled with my fish ponds. I was going to plant the old pigpen but found it only had about an inch of dirt on one end bit good dirt on the other. I am thinking about making it a surprise garden...just let whatever seed that went through the animals come up and harvest the results for pig feed.

I nstill have to finish my other gardens be tilling again tomorrow.

I worked a 12 hours so I didnt get done as much as I would have liked, but I did replant my peas, and got the first batch of sunflowers in the ground.

Oyster shell can be used for calcium in the garden. I put a hand full in with most of my tomatoes this year.

???????? You mean, tomatos should get extra calcium?????????? hmmmmmm

Watered the lettuce, and the newly planted peas. Hoping to get in Quinalt strawberries, more peas, spinach and swiss chard.

Son planted the one sprouted potato in a BIG pot. He will tend this all summer, checking its growth and looking for tiny potatos. A great activity for kids based on his enthusiasm.

we crush up our egg shells even if they have a little yuck in them. And sometimes leave or break an egg out there. The stinky egg keeps deer away for a while.
