I have layered them on that thick before and it is lovely by spring and gone by summer. But we do not get snow to slow down decomposition.

The kale not the house paint....
Sounds like you're well underway with winter prep. We're still getting wood in. When the "Oh my it's too cold outside to grow anything" blues set in for me, I sort my seeds, look at catalogs, order what I need, and start sprouting! I'll have LOTS of squash/pumpkin seeds to sprout this year, in addition to BOSS, wheat, barley, and the usual stuff I sprout for my own use.I had help digging potatoes lol
I guess "help" is depending on who is asking ha-ha; I could barely get the fork in before they would start scratching![]()
I'm kinda bummed to say goodbye to the garden for winter. I have winter peas abd rye at the far end for the girls, and they can kick around in the corn and leftover beans, but everything is pretty much gone now.
I raked up about 3 cubic yards of leaves though, and I put then in a hoop I made with leftover chicken wire for leaf mulch next spring, and the corn harvest is done, so I'm now going to be raking corn stalks that blow in ha-ha![]()
All my leftover gourds and squash are getting nice and squishy for the chooks, and I'm gathering seeds for next year, and to ship off to seed exchanges![]()
Sad time of year for me; light changes, its dark by 5, my garden is gone, no greenery to see at all for miles... And then the snow starts and calving and frozen water... Oh I wish it were spring again already lol![]()
My chickens love kale! Feed it to the chickens if you have some.....or the neighbors chickens! My garden is done for the year. Snow is coming next week.I'm just working on winterizing my ducks. I'm planning on painting inside of duck pen yellow. As someone gave me 5 gallons off light yellow house paint. I figure the yellow will make it seem brighter in there.
Other than that I still have a ton of kale in my garden I don't know what to do with. This is the first year I planted it. Ducks won't eat it. I haven't found anything I like with it either. Anyone have any ideas?
I don't have any neighbors with chickens I tried kale chips they were okay....Ducks might eat it if I wasn't giving them bananas and cukes and popcorn all day...I thought About the whole smoothie thing....if not compost....I don't think mixing the paint with OJ would come out okay....I'd probably stain the toilet...
My. Chickens love kale too. Great in soups, raw salads wilted with lime juice. Very healthy. My chickens love kale! Feed it to the chickens if you have some.....or the neighbors chickens!![]()
