What did you do in the garden today?

I have walnut grafts that are starting to bud . Hope they are a success . I think I have finally figured it out . Only I take about 3 years ago . Tried off and on for 30 + plus years . Butternut , Carpathian and heartnut on black walnut .

I have pear budding on hawthorn . So maybe a success there . I read it could be done . Wildlife food . So a quick pear tree in the woods .
I have read about using hawthorn for pear. I'm finding that invensting some brain time in orchard care and grafting is giving me lot's of new direction for my ADHD! Gotta have a hobby, and brain challenge going all the time, or I get bored out of my wits.

I hope they all work for you jerryse.

Planted sunflower, basil, borage, and another batch of baby kale today. Put some more pepper plants in containers. I'm running out of room and containers! My yard is quite small with limited sun, but I have a hard time composting leftover seed starts. And none of my neighbor's want them. Geez, I thought everyone was a gardening fanatic?!

They're not all fanatics? Last year when I took parsley starts to neighbors, they looked at me with suspicion! Who knows what was on their minds? Doesn't matter as long as I have the pleasure of playing in the dirt. What do you do with borage? I planted some last year and then couldn't figure out what to do with it. Several people commented how they couldn't stand the herb, no helpful comments. Wishing you all sunny days with just enough rain to keep the garden healthy.

I like the flowers mostly. Good for pollinators. You can also add the blossoms to salads, although I haven't. It has Omega-3s in it, I think. I love any herb. I kill other plants in droves, but I have good luck with herbs, for whatever reason.

Checked my garden and found the onion tops are green and the potato plants are starting to poke through the ground. Waiting on the other veggies to start showing.
Been raining here again. Just loving it!!!!

Seeded some grass seed on the south side of our house. Since it was a sandy soil I broke up the top and put down some garden soil I bought at the store mixed it together and planted the seed along with some white clover. I remember the white clover in my grandparents yard and how soft it all felt.

Picked up another lilac bush and a pot of raspberries. Yeah I should stay out of the greenhouse in town!

I have white clover in my front yard and love it. My neighbor with the golf course lawn isn't pleased with my "weeds" invading her lawn, but I refuse to dump chemicals on my lawn. For one thing we're all on wells! I told her clover was good because it provides nitrogen!

Many seed mixes have white clover in them b/c it fixes nitrogen to help the grass to grow. Not to mention, clover is not favored by Japanese beetle larvae. So, while the neighbors with the golf course lawns are paying for lawn service to poison the weeds and then poison the insects, you can enjoy your nice green, lush lawn. The only down side to having a lot of clover (I do) is that it attracts every bee in the neighborhood. There's a hive about 1000' away! I've been nailed by a bee on more than one occasion, just walking out to the garden!

I haven't seen a honey bee around in a couple years. Mason/carpenter bees are of course plentiful, based on the holes in my pergola and mailbox post. If I had room, I'd set up s hive. Although the chemicals this neighborhood dumps on its lawns would probably kill them all off
