What did you do in the garden today?

Gardennut I have seen people grow all the veggies they would want in kiddie pools in apartments on their roof tops. They don't take much soil and I have one that I poked holes in the bottom of and planted it with strawberries. And the berry plants love it and are going crazy.

I think I saw your pics of bags and kiddie pool gardening. Do you use potting soil or garden soil? I assume you drill holes in the bottom of the pool for drainage. My driveway is the sunniest area I have, and I have quite a few pots. But now I may try your kiddie pool suggestion. I enjoy trying different projects like this. I still need to transform a pallet into a planter for my daughter too.

Yes, I've seen that as well. My biggest challenge is getting enough sun. Fortunately I don't have to grow enough for a large family, just me.
I have just the opposite problem here in Florida. Aside from starting in Jan/Feb I have to find companion plants to shade even my "full sun" veggies or they burn up. Typically, my garden is finished by the end of June no matter what I do.

I don't think gardening would be as much fun without challenges. Maybe it's my stubborn Taurus nature. My parents called it stubbornness; I call it tenacity.

Raising plants brings a lot of bees and hummingbirds around the place. I don't mind getting stung because it usually makes my joints work a lot better and I am not as stiff for several days. The honeybees also drink from my ponds waterfall and that is kinda cool.

I got stung by a wasp a couple years ago. I noticed that the next few days my RA was not nearly as bad.

I put in my new strawberry bed today. I put it together yesterday evening and made a run to Lowes to pick up some plants. Lucky I went today. They only had one flat of strawberries left. I have 10 new strawberry plants to go with the 6 I already have.

I have both kinds of kiddie pools. I have strawberries in a pool that I just used a knife to poke and twist hole in. I put rabbit bedding in first then miracle grow moisture control potting soil. And another kddie pool with Walmart bags filled with potting soil and sitting in a pool with 3" of water in it. I also have a raised bed and pots. I would love to add another pool. I think my plants are doing great so far. Squash and egg plant, cucs and cantaloup are all blooming.

I saw my first wasp yesterday, but it looked like it was flying drink. All my plants that I dusted are covered in netting. So I don't know what was wrong with it.

Our raised bed is made from pallets we had left over from making the chicken coop.

Drenching rains here too. If it were sunny, I'd likely not get anything done inside. Love the sound of the rain on the roof and the deck. I'd like to play in the rain for a while, though, and start more radishes and lettuce and whatever else. Conditions are just right, and I'd like to keep an eye out for slugs and other critters.

My honeybees died over the winter, with just a few remaining and trying to stay busy. I've got other pollinators, but what amazes me is the proliferation of bumblebees. They make a lovely strumming among the raspberries. They are so focused and thorough as they work through the patch.
