What did you do in the garden today?

I keep seeing people planting dill. Does it have some big repellant properties or something that I am missing? Please inform me

I use it in potato, macaroni, and tuna salads. Then there's dill pickles. And I think it's a habitat for swallow-tail butterflies. Plus I like how it smells.

Dill: can't make dilly beans without it. Then, there's the sour cream and dill with finely sliced cukes. Dill pickles, chopped in tuna salad. On potato salad, on hot potatoes. Then, there's all the phone calls from friends... Got any dill? It's one of those power house herbs. Happily reseeds in abundance, but not an obnoxious weed.

Did some emergency gardening this morning birds are pecking off the tomatoe plants had to cover them with net wrap quick before the rain

Planted cucumbers , honey dew . squash , pumpkin and Okra . Rains keep drying up before they get here . So I watered the garden . It has turned hot here .

We have that problem as well. Drives me nuts. The day we planted ours a bird nipped one of them off flush with the ground before I could get them covered up.

They took 1 out of 12 completely gone and 1 has just the main stock with leafs on it yet hopping for the best with the rest and it's a horibal feeling all the work just to have birds take them out

I can empathize about the birds. The squirrels in my neighborhood are the size of small house cats, it seems like. And they're just obnoxious, tearing and digging things up. If I had a firearm, I'd never have to buy meat! Although the houses are too close together to shoot any too. Darn it! I'd be eating squirrel and replacing Windows.
