What did you do in the garden today?

Finally got the second kiddie pool planted! I didn't have enough bags so I just put the potting soil in the pool and planted. That way I could get more plants in there. I moved some tomato, bush beans, and a couple of the pitiful broccoli plants in to it. Maybe the better soil and additional soul will give everything a more conducive growing environment. Crossing my fingers!

Good luck! My DD #3 in Florida is loving her kiddie pool garden. Hers is planted in the pool with out the bags. Yours will do great!
If any of them start to turn a bit yellow just add some epsom salts it will perk them right up. :)

Picked strawberries today, but that's all I'm doing in the garden today....too hot out there.

Yesterday evening I utilized an old bale of hay to place more material on my spud rows and to mulch more around my tomatoes and onions. Also distributed a big bag of grass clippings here and there as a side dressing for plants. Suckered tomatoes and continued to weave them through the cattle panel trellising.

Then side dressed the corn with blood meal, pelleted lime and epsom salts and everything else with ES and pelleted lime. I need more straw to finish out the tomatoes. My feed store has a big semi trailer full of bales of straw they sell and under the door of that, on the ground, is all the loose straw that escapes those bales. Twice I've gotten a truck bed full of that stuff and brought it home to place around trees and plants. I'll be doing that next week....no need to buy bales of straw when just a little work will give you the same thing for free.

All the taters look great, though they had an attack of those little black bugs last week....I dusted them thoroughly with lime and that seemed to stop the scourge. The tomatoes are snapping out of their earlier funk and are now deep green and growing well. The peppers are growing and putting out blossom, though I don't think they'd win any prizes at the fair. Strawberries are looking grand and putting out fruit. Onions are doing well enough, though a few are showing what they all could be, so I'm not as impressed with their growth after seeing those big few.

Hope to get a load or two of horse manure as soon as the suppliers ground is dry enough to get around the manure mounds. That should perk everything up.

I went out to check on my garden this morning and found my plants had been atttcked over night and something was eating everything like crazy! And with no bee's anyways I dusted everything!
Here's hoping I don't lose this battle!

I know! Aren't the bugs awful this year? The Japanese beetles will be arriving soon here in Maryland. They always decimate my roses. By the time they leave, the roses look like sticks, but then they regrow once the beetles leave.
