What did you do in the garden today?

Going to the Home and Garden Show today! I haven't been there in 4 years. Always had to work this weekend!

Went to a hardware store (not the one I work at) and looked at getting onion sets. Every set had several bulbs molding! Went to where I work and our looked great so I got 2 sets there.

Seeds are sprouting in my little green house! So excited!!!

Got a bag of Daylilies to plant but first a fence is going up! Hope to get several things done on Wednesday and Thursday my days off!

I'm trying to remove these enormous weed/things and they keep coming back!! Does anyone know what they are? They have a seriously deep rhizome like taproot, and they are perennial. They also grow a big giant stalk if I let them. Help, I can't seem to get them dug completely up, but if theyre something beneficial, I'll leave them be. Here are a few pics of the greenery in question....

*oh, also...whatever it is, is it safe to feed to the chickens? It's kind of slimy..

I use these as a spring green . So yes safe for man and beast . I have been unable to get a positive ID . It is one of the Dock species . Not Curly Dock maybe Yellow Dock . Garden Sorrel is a close relative . Every piece of root left in the ground will grow . Spraying is the best cure .

Yes!!! Lol as soon as I said "dock" to DH, he remembered what it was called, go figure :lau

Wow, not only are they not poisonous, they're actually healthy to eat! We have a half an acre of essentially spinach that we've been hacking away at :p

I'll stop trying to kill myself on it and leave it be for now, thank you so much :)

Grandma always talked about sour dock and dandelion greens . I think that was curly dock . I do not like bitter . The one you have is never bitter . That is why I use it .

Sorry, but I hate dandelion greens. My mother used to make me eat them things. Bitter and nasty. I hate them.

Quote: Dandelions are nice and mild if cooked the right way. I wash them super well, let them soak for a few hours in cold water, rinse again, bring to a boil, toss that first boil water, then cook them in fresh water. They're great with some butter and vinegar. Bet they'd be great with bacon also. They have to be young and tender, no blossoms yet.

Bon appetite.
