What did you do in the garden today?

Our curse is Japanese beetles and tent caterpillars. Anyone else? I can't get a blossom off my rose bush before those beetles chew holes in it

The deer eat our roses what they don't the aphids do. Fenced areas are a premium here chickens and vegetables get what ever fencing I can do.
Today I watched the corn grow in the garden. Yellow Squash are coming up as well. Leveling a spot to extend the fencing for garden and chickens.

Repotted a snake plant with a few sedums I'm trying to save after a storm, same with a couple of succulents; keeping my fingers crossed. Cleaned up the patio and swept, watered lemon and apple trees, added to the bulk trash pile. Pulled tape off a bunch of boxes for mulch. Went for a few groceries and a bag of feed, folded laundry and gave the dog a bath. Going to prep for dinner and have a shower. I'm toast.

So me and Hubs have a bunch of bricks that we need to do something with, and we came across this photo in a magazine. We are thinking about doing something similar to this in our yard. This photo is cut off on top, but there is like an arbor there leading into this fenced in garden area. So cute! We would put most of our smaller crops in this garden area, and put the bigger stuff (like corn, pumpkins, etc.) out in the field, and keep the tomatoes & peppers in the greenhouses. Not only would this consolidate the crops a lot, but weeding would be a lot easier sitting on the edge of the bricks, than weeding crops on the ground! What do you guys think of it?
:love

Down for the count today...blood sugar went really low...49. Had to scramble an egg and drink orange juice with honey to get it above 80.
Hubby wouldn't leave me at home alone so I rode with him to take hay bales to our herd at the old home place. I got to visit with his sister....she is a hoot.
Fed Susy a bottle when we got back....little booger was nuzzling my knee! She is getting really feisty too...ran and bucked when she finished her bottle.
Just did a little walking around in the garden making notes for what to plant where for the fall....carrots, lettuce, winter onions.
Tomorrow I need to work on the chicken pens, but we may get rain...wait and see.
Anyone hear from Jen?

No, she never responded to my message. Hope she is ok.
Take care of yourself. Low blood sugar is nothing to mess around with. Do you take insulin?

Blood sugar problems... Ugh! I know how that goes. I hope you feel better soon and get a good night's sleep.

It's good of your husband to look after you. I had gestational diabetes with all 3 of my youngest children, and borderline with the rest. My husband and I would get in fights because he'd try to get me to eat a sandwich he made me when he noticed my mood take a dive, and I was always convinced my blood sugar wasn't the reason I was in a bad mood. I threw one at him one time. Why was it always sandwiches anyway? Gah! Lol! I am thankful he always tried to help even though I got really nasty with him sometimes, and I tried to tell him so as much as I could.

Another cantaloupe picked itself today, found it lying on the ground. Growing them vertically sure cuts down on picking through the vines and getting rashy from the spines and prickles. Nice soft soil in my raised beds, so no harm.

Expecting rain again tomorrow, so I got some fall seeds in the ground today. More peppers (mini sweet rainbow) and bush beans. And some various flowers. Dug out some sediment from my big drain and the channel between runoff catchments and my pond. Smelly sticky mess that went to the compost pile. Also added the shavings from my temp brooder in the sun room.

Breaking that brooder down made me realize just how much dust those chicks made! How do people brood them in their houses proper? I'd forget how to breathe, or die gagging from the smell. That litter was already composting in there and WARM! Had a tarp folded into quarters under it, and heavy greenhouse plastic glazing under that. Thank goodness! It was dry on top, but got damping towards the bottom four inches or so. Was about 9-10" deep all told. Anyway, it worked fine. Still got 25 big thriving birds.

@CapricornFarm Cap, your tractor looks great! Glad it's almost done. You deserve a rest after that big push. I'm excited about your chicks. Pretty fancy babies you got coming!

I've bathed, got a purring kitty draped across my lap leaning back in bed. I'm out shortly. Y'all have a good evening and sweet dreams.
