What did you do in the garden today?

The other day I wished for a soaker rain since things were getting pretty dry around here. Well today we got a real frog strangler. Power just came back on and we are just settling in for the night. It's ironic that the day started out with the delivery of our new Generac back up generator. It is sitting in the box mocking us during the outage, but at least soon we'll have no more days or week long outages while the lines get fixed :yesss:. The garden gave us a nice lunch today and the storm gave us a beautiful sunset.

CapricornFarm: "I wonder if it makes any difference in germination if the fruit is not ripe when you take the seeds out. Sure a lot less messy."

As long as the seeds are fully formed and dark brown they should be OK. If you don't want to scarify and stratify the seeds yourself like I mentioned in an earlier post, you can plant the whole pawpaw fruit (the riper the better) and the bugs, worms and other critters in the soil will do the job for you. You will get a few sprouts in the spring. Sorry for rambling on about pawpaws, I'm a biologist and this kind of stuff gets me excited!

I was doing major mowing today in what we call the "orchard". We have 3 peach trees, 1 nectarine, and I "think" 4 apple...and one old ancie apple that is not quite on our property, but the land owner lets us pick them. So remember my "we have too many bunnies" comment.... i just helped those critters out! I mowed over the top of a nest...with 5 babies in it. So I scooped up the babies, honestly with every intention of "doing them in"...but I couldn't do it. Then the kids realized I had a bucket of bunnies. There were 5. So I spent time in the hot sun "moving" the nest a few feet a way to a much safer place, and rigged it so I could check to see if momma came back in the night to feed. Why are "baby" anythings so cute?! :barnie I just couldnt do it. So IF they make it we will have 5 more wild bunnies on the farm. It that lady and her daughter come back, I'll offer them to her. They had to be less than 10 days old...they didnt have eyes open yet...one was trying!
