What did you do in the garden today?

Strange day here. Only checked garden to see if I could find more cucumber to add to pickling juice but didn't.
Eclipse did not make everything dark here but wasn't expected to. Was darker than normal, the moon made for quite the natural sun block. Did see the shadow of the eclipse on the ground through the trees though and that was interesting.

We did get to see the partial here. Will have another one in April 2024 that crosses Oklahoma with a predicted total eclipse in the SE corner of the state.

Pulling weeds tthis morning hat grew in the rains the past two weeks...had crab grass 18 inches high among the okra!
Heavy swarm of mosquitoes attacked me and made me run for cover in the house.

Hubby had a doctor appointment in the city during the eclipse so we took our welding glasses.

Need to weed beds tomorrow but will spray down with bug spray and vanilla before entering the mosquito zone. My arms, neck and legs are splotchy from this morning.

Long day in the city, but had fun helping folks enjoy and learn about the eclipse. We had 93% at peak and I managed a few photos between clouds with the solar filter on my camera. We are already thinking of visiting friends in South Texas to experience the April 2024 total eclipse, and the wildflowers! Back to the farm in a few hours.

Close to peak for us above. Nice sunspots below.

I use Cedarcide every day. Don't like to use DEET.

Fortunately we only have occasional skeeters but the black flies are annoying, not northwoods annoying, but bad enough. We grow lemongrass, lavender and citronella plants in our herb gardens around the house and that seems to keep them off the porch. We'll rub some crushed citronella leaves on neck and arms before heading out to the back 30 and it seems to work good enough that we can lay off the deet. Works decent for deerflies too. Effects last about 2-4 hours.
