What did you do in the garden today?

I would LOVE it if I pulled in my driveway to a pot-bellied pig! Or a baby pygmy goat or two. I need to get out into the country, I'm telling you...

I put a floating row cover over everything and pin it down on the edges of the raised bed. Haven't done it this year, but I probably should.

Weather here is chilly again, dang it all! Mid-April in eastern NC should NOT be this cold.
When I came outside this morning and it was 33° I said the same thing about Virginia. Already have for goats so I see them on my driveway quite a bit. I do like the pics but they Are escape artists and very destructive when they do it. And the problem with my younger one is the second he breaks out he goes over in breaks the goats out of their fencing so then there’s two fences I need to repair. Plus the goats are freaked out by him but he just wants to be their friend. Each of them have very large areas to be in and get to come out when I am home but I guess that’s not enough for them. But they are sweet little guys. Well porkchops not little

We have a bit over 2 acres. With four goats now 20 chickens the two potbellies in an ever expanding garden. Three cats patrolling the land. Two dogs that come out sometimes but enjoy the comforts of the house too. I think we hit our limit with the animals but there’s always room for more garden. And soon bees

Finally finished our second raised bed. Yay! We planted several tomatoes, peppers, okra, cucumbers, and carrots in it. We might put some melons in the empty corner. The other bed is holding asparagus, tomatoes, snap peas, beets, bush beans, carrots, broccoli, and potatoes.

We'll see how it all comes out, I guess. I used companion planting charts to try to give them good neighbors, since I don't have a ton of bedspace.

What can I use to keep roly polys off my melons? I'm not planning on trellising it, I just didn't want melons sitting on the ground. Tips?

Maybe use straw? Or lay down plastic? I have not grown many melons.

I love to travel as my vegetables and this year I am attempting to trellis my cantaloupe also. Of course me being Miss smarty-pants when I hadn’t dealt a trellis and then started reading about it and realized I screwed up in every way possible. Everything I’m reading says it should be about 8 foot tall and about 4 foot wide. I’m only 5 foot tall so I’m building a 6 foot trellis so I can actually get to my balance but from what I understand It has to be very tall because vines can grow up to 20 feet and of course very sturdy. There are some amazing repurpose sing trellis ideas online I was looking at before I left for work. Some pretty cool and creative stuff. And even shows you ways to make slings for when your melons get heavy so they don’t fall off
