A little vinca, wild grape, chinaberry and morning glory vine attacking and weeding crabgrass while temps were tolerable... had to come inside before noon though. And then the central air line was already bearing a chunk of ice on the refrigerant line entering the box outside and not cooling ...ugh!

The chooks stayed out to work the piles I made looking for goodies. Going to give them cold cantaloupe shortly.

Your system is low on freon. The evaporator,(part that is in your furnace) is frozen up and air is not passing thru it easily.
Turn off and wait a little until ice melts, and then it will cool for a short time, until it freezes up again.

...OR.... the refrigerant is fine, but the totally filthy clogged furnace filter, plus a 105°F heat index (very hot and very humid), plus thermostat set to cool too much for these conditions caused the problem. All resolved for now. (edit: fingers crossed...)

Just went out to my miserable chooks to find they had not learned to climb into the shallow trough under the pear trees yet, only to drink from it. So I placed them in it one at a time. They got right back out, still panting.
Hope they get the idea so they can be more comfortable!

I thought it best to spoil my chickens a little with some pureed cucumbers from the veg garden. It's hot and there's a lot of panting going on. Last year, I gave them cukes split lengthwise, but they just pecked out the seeds and left the rest to waste. Lazy girls!

Whenever I give leftover kitchen veggie scraps, I chop into small pieces with a knife. (this is for reasonably small amounts). When I get a larger volume, I have a dedicated (ole skool) manual meat grinder in my chicken area. (dedicated for chicken use only) The screen grate is quite large so the bits come out bite size for chickens. No Waste, since all gets picked clean.

Why not just put all chopped to same size bits as the seeds and throw in some camo so they can't pick them out (e.g., yogurt or chopped pale colored fruit peelings?

It is so oppresive out today my only garden activities consisted of moving chaff that the chooks had scattered back to underneath ground touching veggies and bringing cool treats to the girls when checking on them.

I brought in the hibiscus and put it under one of the grow lights. It was struggling in the heat but seems to be recovering. It's up to 108/109 today/tomorrow but supposed to be 114* by Thursday

Looks like buds and will soon bloom. Mine had a shade of pink flowers.
