What did you do in the garden today?

Hi everyone :frow

I was up before the sun of course. Watered the grass and plants I bought yesterday. Managed to get the weeds pulled, talked with hubs and decided on shade cloth for the garden. If we put it on the inside we can staple it and won't fly away in a storm.

We bought the stuff for a trellis in the center of the garden that will double as roof support; hubs will build tomorrow along with a hut for the quail.

Bought some trailing periwinkle and something else on clearance I need to look up.

Have a great weekend!

The luffa patch. It’s about 150ft long and 25-30ft wide.

Been a long time since I checked in. Let my garden go last month. Got busy with back to school stuff with the kiddos, and didn’t have extra time to spend in the beds. We had a drought and didn’t water either. Can’t believe the cantaloup is still putting on fruit after that amount of neglect. Amazing!

Might go ahead and set some seeds after the cut down for fall, as long as they are fast growing and don’t require much maintenance, as we are about to try our hand at growing some decent cannabis for our personal use, which became medically legal in Oklahoma recently. Yay!

Should probably just chop up and turn in the old plants, even if it means numerous volunteers next year. Both beds need more organic matter, as I had problems getting root vegetables to form and lots of blossom end rot this year. Maybe next year will be better.

I’d like to build a trellis system for next year, instead of caging. I like the idea of putting shade friendly plants under the climbers, and being able to tie back, and tend a little more easily and reliably. I learned a lot more about what NOT to do in my 2nd year, that’s for sure. Lol!

We only take from the garden now.. the Son 35 I own the house with I am 58 his Dad is 72 anyway the kid does the watering Dad take care of weed patrol I pick the veggies out
That sounds like a great system! Maybe our 4 yr. old will be more willing and able to help out next year. Our 2 older sons have moderate to severe mental disabilities. Big reason why we want to grow some pot, as they are doing better with CBD treatment, and the good stuff is expensive. May be able to put my 6 yr. old to work in the garden some because he’s starting to be willing and able to follow directions, and be trusted. He’s my big veggie eater anyway. My 7 yr. old is mentally still a toddler, so he has a lot longer to go, I’m afraid.

James the Son was born with small lungs, flat feet and bad heart.. he did work walmart for 9 years he was one of the highest paid so they got rid of him.. Dad wonders if if his years in Vietnam caused it
