What did you do in the garden today?

Today was the first day I did some work in my yard. Last winter my chickens just about dug up everything. So in a effort to save my perennials I had to throw down soil to fill holes and slap down chicken wire. Today I removed the old wire and re wired one of my strawberry beds.

I had been sent by accident a large diamond wire. So rather than put the wire on the soil I stretched it over the top of the box. The strawberries struggled with the small 1 inch chicken wire. I keep trying things till I find something that works.

Day 3 of the bee hive. I HOPE (except for the end vents, which have yet to arrive) to get it done tomorrow. I will post photos when it is finished.

I don’t mind them eating the berries. The wire keeps them from digging and ripping up the plants. The strawberries are everbearing so I get Tons all season! And the chickens are so well trained they wait for me to pick them lol...or should I say they’re just lazy! They actually get tired of eating them if you can believe that. They like the bugs more than the berries.

Yep!!! They do!
Their so funny if I throw them on the ground they all go after them. But on the plant they don’t bother them. And after a week of strawberries they just walk away from them. How lucky am I ?

Mine are the same way with tomatoes. By week 2 of my throwing cherry tomatoes over the fence they give me the stink eye. "NO MORE 'maters or hornworms." "We can't eat one more, nope, not one more!" "I'll go broody if you make me eat one more tomato"

Too funny! Okay mine are so SPOILED that if I don’t use needle nose pliers to squish the green goo out of the worms...they look at me like “really?”
