What did you do in the garden today?

I have good days and some not so good. I use a chair a good deal of the time. I usually switch in between multiple different projects to switch up different parts of my body. Guess you’d call that puttering...I go from 5:30am everyday...my garden with my chicken’s are where you’re going to find me. So thankful ;)

So, I finally have a new computer! I've been stealing my partners for so long I keep trying to log into mine with his info... Oops. XD It's a beast of a thing, super strong, runs like a dream. All my games work great which is exciting. Plus it's more than enough for my farming needs... A spreadsheet here, a .png file there. It's super nice to have. The keyboard is the best part... It lights up underneath which makes it easier to see the keys to type and the keys are very "click"y and springy, very responsive. All nice things. The keyboard feels so nice that it almost makes me wanna relearn how to type properly.

So now I have picked out all my varieties of veg for the year, and where I'm ordering what from... So it's time to start looking at companion planting charts for the year and decide what my rotation for the year looks like. Then I'll cross reference what I need with what I have already and then place my finalized order in a week or two.

For curious people here's some of the charts I use. I also do a websearch on each plant type on their own to see if there are any discrepancies because in-depth articles on individual kinds of veg tend to be more precise than compiled lists.

Mine are the same way with tomatoes. By week 2 of my throwing cherry tomatoes over the fence they give me the stink eye. "NO MORE 'maters or hornworms." "We can't eat one more, nope, not one more!" "I'll go broody if you make me eat one more tomato"

We never got to that stage with ours...they would run towards the tomatoes I threw in their run! Of course, our tomatoes were on the pathetic side last year, then were overtaken by the cuke vines I planted nearby. So, I don’t think I hit their upper tolerance limit on tomatoes.

My other order of seeds arrived! This one was from a smaller company and they threw in 2 trial seeds to try, and an extra packet of an additional pepper variety to try!

Spouse says they will build 2 additional raised beds on the sunniest spot in the yard, luckily near to the other raised beds. Spouse want peppers to make homemade pepper sauce, so we will be testing out about 8 varieties. Thick flesh sweet Italians make a good base, but we bought some low heat “hot” varieties based on the descriptions, in addition to some other sweet varieties (none are bell types).

Ripped to plastic cover off my 2019 calendar for gardening and added a few notations, like 10,8,6 weeks before our last frost, when to start certain seeds indoors, etc!

Congrats on the computer. These are all really good websites. My favorite is the Old Farmers Almanac you mentioned. I've been using their planting guides for years. I have also signed up to get planting tips and I get some really awesome and very useful information for raising vegetables. They also have an easy to use crop rotation chart that finally made sense to me. Back to the computer: I make my garden layouts in excel. In addition to keeping track of annual crop yields. It's a great tool for even "not really that organized" people like me.
