We are at 11° here. Not doing anything outside except tending chickens every hour.

I tried cooking tomatoes three different ways last year. I simmered Roma tomatoes the usual way, I oven roasted a blend of whatever tomatoes were ripe at the time, and then I did the traditional simmering of the blended tomatoes. The oven roasted was pretty good, a little sweeter, however my favorite was the Roma only sauce. I only add minimal salt and acetic acid. I did do one batch of marinara, which was OK. I prefer to do just plain sauce so I can turn it into any dish when I actually use it for a meal. This year I'm planting majority of Roma's since I use sauce more than anything. I canned more after this picture, but it's still yummy!

It was 4* this morning we’ve had 4 straight days of snow/hail/rain...I’m getting depressed lol.
Today the sun is out No wind and a high of 27*!

Also, acre, I had the same problem! 60* out, pitchfork into the compost... Chink! Frozen solid! I may have a look at it today as well.

Well, much too wet today. Flash flood warnings...even an emergency alert sent to my phone. Compost and garden area are likely soaking wet, and would rather not deal with the mud/and standing water. Looks like rain is stopping for now, back to cold weather though so the compost will freeze again (if it ever actually unfroze). So, looks like frozen compost for the foreseeable future!

I'm right there with you on the mud. All the snow and ice melted and there was rain and more ice yesterday. Today it will rain (and more mud) then freezing temps tomorrow and snow next week. I'm looking forward to cooler temps to firm up the mud. It's too muddy to do anything outside right now. Just trying to determine best time to start seeds for now.
