What did you do in the garden today?

I have critters here also. Three of them are under control, my two dogs and rabbit. We also have peregrine falcons, house finches, owls, and more.

We think that our only killed hen so far was done by a bird of prey. Our heelers set on big birds now, even vultures, and chase them around the property until they go back over the fence. I think they instinctively know.

We have turkey vultures here. I only saw one once, and that was when I was fishing. Amazing creatures.

Oh, I have flying predators as well but they aren't a problem in the garden. The big pine tree across the street in my neighbor's front yard is the nesting place of choice for a healthy pair of hawks. Not positive what but very large. Last year they hatched triplets, I'm hoping for twins this year. Then there's owls and eagles.

Oooh, I started thinking about all the critters we have...
Wood ducks, king fishers, owls, raccoons and skunks of course, gophers, turkeys, coyotes, chicken hawks, vultures, deer, otters, peliated (sp?) woodpeckers, humming birds, squirrels, voles, moles, snakes...ok, getting into common critters, gonna stop. The dog only stops barking when shes asleep.
I went out on the deck one night and about had a heart attack when an owl swooped right over my head, completely silent. I guess I startled him too.
