What did you do in the garden today?

April weather is usually a rollercoaster. The day after I put some seeds in the garden the temperature dropped. Last two days cold, wet and just plain raw. I turned the brooder plate off and the chicks are fine. I'll try to give them two more weeks indoor and hopefully the night time temps won't get any colder than 40F. The interior coop temp is usually 10 - 20 degrees warmer than outside temps. So today is supposed to be sunny and dry. My plans are to get some much needed yardwork done. I have a bunch of small branches all over the place from those strong winds that have been passing through recently. Then there's the leaves that didn't get picked up last Autumn due to all the rain we had.

Awful weather! Wind 30mph with 60mph gusts. I think we had “gusts”
allll dayyy longgg! :th
Like a nonstop wind tunnel.
I’m going to have allot of clean up tomorrow. It’s raining horizontally now. Our low tonight 32*. Can’t wait to see what happened to all my seedings most had their primary leaves :hit

Oh no! I hope your seedlings are ok. You might be surprised though, they can tough little things.

We have wind too, since yesterday and not letting up today. I could feel dirt hitting my face last night when I fed the flock :sickThe good news is the 20* drop in temperature today:yesss:

I guess I'll be opening the big door on the coop. Fugly likes to keep the girls in that area when it's raining or windy. I don't blame him a bit.

Have a great day everyone:frow

Thanks, but I only planted seeds and they should be fine. I'm not planting the seedlings for another week or two, and I may plant them under cover. I want to test my soil before I plant the tomatoes. The herbs and leeks won't go out until I get more raised beds finished. All the trees, especially the large pines near the back fence suck up a lot of water so I think raised beds for my herb garden is a good idea. I feel bad for the folks in the mid-west with that winter storm coming in today. But like I said in my earlier post, April weather is a rollercoaster.

I'm having the very same weather here. You can see how fast the wind is going and where a sudden gust is on the grass. It's pretty strong.

It reminds me of the time I went to Garibaldi Oregon many years ago. Me and my brother left for a trip, and 45 minutes later, a massive storm hit my hometown of Post Falls Idaho. When we got to Seattle Washington, our halfway point, we got to our great uncle's house, and we were able to FaceTime my family, who apparently were having a candle-lit dinner with my grandparents, our churches missionaries, and a friend of mine.

On the way back 4 days later my dad instructed me to get a generator on the way home. We got the generator. And then, 45 minutes away from home, the power came back on. 4 whole days without power total.

I grew up in North Idaho, and I am used to and prepared for what mother nature can do. From 2 ft deep snow, to massive thunderstorms.

Anyway, I hope my power doesn't go out.

It was 26* this morning with a feels like temperature of 19. It almost 11:00a now and it’s up to 30*. The stinging wind just made my eyes water.
Watching the weather this morning I really should not complain (at all) this storm is heading towards the Midwest going on to the east coast bringing awful wind/hurricane snow/sleet to just about everyone in it’s path.
Come on Mother Nature....cut us a break!
The seedings look okay.
My tarp held but I had to reenforce some grommets with gorilla tape. I’m actually shocked (and very pleased) that all my Hawk Hideouts stayed in place. It could always be worse. So I feel blessed.

Sorry about the crappy weather. That storm will likely be blown out before it gets to my area. No more rain forecasted until next week. I managed to get some yardwork done in the front yard. It was 32F at 6 am this morning and was only 39F when I was outside working. Between my asthma, the pollen and the cool temps it was a bit of a struggle but it looks better. The lilies of the valley are coming up and the rose and lilac and azaleas are greening up. There's a plant coming up that I can't remember what it was last year (this is all stuff planted by previous owner). Oh, and my fruit trees are showing signs of life, Yay! I planted these. Something very interesting caught my eye as it appears it may well be a small, lone daffodil. That would be so awesome. The weather is supposed to be warmer tomorrow and it looks like it will remain warmer and drier for a stretch. This is good since I just opened my last bag of stove pellets. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Hi all! Sorry about those of you dealing with nasty weather. What a pain! Hope it passes quickly.

It's been really nice here lately. I've been eating broccoli, various and sundry greens and asparagus. My tomato and pepper seedlings need to get potted up, and I'm behind on starting my other stuff. Last frost date is April 15 technically, but on the coast I can usually push it a week or so. I need to get the lemongrass, basils, and other thyme started and plant cuke and squash seeds. Wheee!
