What did you do in the garden today?

Cleaned out the chicken coop yesterday, got help from the small owner of the chicks, chicks will be moving in next weekend. Diatomaceous earth down. Straw and wall mounted box put back in last night. Next is vicks rub on the roost and I need to figure out a secondary roost. Somebody correct me if it's not vicks that goes on the roost, I forget what I put there last time, goal to keep mites off. Haven't seen any mites, so it's preventative. Oh so achy today lol.

Got a taste of what it will be like to water a container garden as well. Not too bad, have a hose that runs close. Spiders already figured out where to spin to hit me at face height.

Raised beds are going to have to wait until I have help. Pretty sure that will be within a month, so still time to plant. Bought more plants. Gotta stop that....

Thanks! It has been a lot of work. I moved all the raised beds and the greenhouse is newly put up.

Funny how hard things get when we get older.

Tell me about it. The only work I did on the run extension yesterday was to cut the roof "trusses." I realized how tired I am from all the work when I needed a nap after lunch. I did normal stuff like laundry, then made pasta. I'm planning on planting leeks later today and maybe the poblano & jalapenos. I plant the hot peppers in containers in my front yard. The plants are pretty and they don't mess with my bell peppers. We had a light frost this morning but I think everything survived. As for rosemary: I always plant it in a pot that I can bring inside to over-winter. I had a 5 year old plant when I sold my other house but I gave the rosemary plant to a former neighbor. I will be replacing that soon. I have a seedling I started, however I may just buy something a bit bigger.

Haven’t heard about Vic’s. Old timers used Motor Oil (it was on hand) I’ve used linseed oil. Here’s my 2cents. It what I’ve decided to do. Paint. A good outdoors paint. My coop is a little prefab that we’ve added to. It’s lasted 3 years but the wood needs to be painted if it’s going to last a couple more. Not only will it look nicer it’d protect the wood and I’ve been known to paint right over spiders webs lol.
I’m going to build my own.
Someday ;)
Good morning Gardeners :frow

I’ve got to think differently.
I have patio plants I move back and forth...and it’s just takes up too much time & energy. (Too many plants)
Maybe it’s because I’m about to turn 60 (which blows my mind) but I’ve got To truly think down the road about how I’ll take care of the garden and me.
I’ve got 8 10x6 raised boxes. 4 have perennials.
My goal is to have all my basic herb perennials that I like and 4 boxes for whatever I choose to grow.
Honestly I only have one box ready to go. Irises are in one chicken dust bath spa & fort in the other. And my last one is where I work dirt.
My garden plan this year is maintenance... HWC the run paint the coop and move lots of dirt!
I’ve decided I’ll plant tomatoes, onions & garlic and find a spot for cilantro.
Now to wrap a pot on my patio would not be too difficult.
Funny as a kid we had rosemary hedges. Just couldn’t cut them fast enough. :hmm It smelled wonderful after the trimming. Just had a flashback lol.

It got cold here with snow in the forecast for today and tomorrow.
I can feel it in the air. :(

To be on the safe side I will pack up all my pepper, squash and tomato plants and bring them inside.
We’re due for a storm. It’s cloudy & windy and I had on my winter coat this morning.
Gotta feeling we’re going to get hammered it’s supposed to start around noon. :th
