Great looking fields just cannot live with tornado now

Good morning gardeners and chicken wranglers. I didn't finish the run extension yesterday, but I just need to do a couple of more things this morning and it will be open for my hens. It got up near 70F here yesterday. That slowed me down a bit. I did get the frames setup for my herb / flower gardens. After the run is finished I can start filling them in with dirt. I've started several herbs inside and they're ready to be planted outside. Gee, no more building projects.

We did get stuff lettuce two types and asparagus planted in with the tomato looking for that next year

-checking on the fruit and veggies. -Horseherb is taking nicely in the shade under the oak. -love this native ground cover! Flowers are blooming profusely! -summer perennials (daylilies, skullcap, lantana, oak leaf hydrangeas) are about to bloom and add color to the beds. The iris, pincushion flower, coreopsis, and society garlic are blooming, and caladiums coming up! -roses and star jasmine are creating lovely fragrance. -just a suburban back yard, but it provides eggs, fruit, herbs, and vegetables.

It is already in the low to mid 80s, here. Yep. When summer sets in (and 100+ temps), all of the trees/vegetation provide wonderful shade for the chickens.

See we have not gotten to the 100 here 82 or so more temperate the reason we are the evergreen state

Hi there gardeners

Just getting caught up with you guys, ya'll have been busy! Unfortunately I haven't done much gardening. Instead we've been battling pigeons and now roof rats. We have a few neighbors that are not good about keeping their yards clear of old fruit and the rats were an issue last year for my neighbors across the street. Apparently the problem hasn't improved.

@LittleMissCountry those planters are adorable! Pics again when you have plant growth please. What have you got in there?

@WthrLady nice job on that fence!

@MissChick@dee have you considered moving some of that leaf mulch to your problem soil? Over time it will improve the soil and it will become softer. Gypsum is also quite helpful but takes time too. I put that in with some aloe, then mulched with leaves and compisted mulch and left it a couple years. When I dug up the aloe the soil was quite a bit softer and the aloes wide root system helped break up the clay down deep. No more slippery goo when it rains either.

Where mini deer and antelope play? Pretty pic. I miss living in the Midwest, all that beautiful green. Except the tornados, don't miss those.
