What did you do in the garden today?

Nothing done in the garden today. It rained again.

Did manage two hardware stores to get some lattice for the wisteria and some irrigation tubing.

Those two places were crazier than a toy shop, near closing on Christmas Eve. Men and children scrambling about buying plants and pots, and flowers. It was INSANE!

planned to work on the underground irrigation for the new garden tomorrow and plant the wisteria. I'm going to get the flats to some outdoor time as well.

Good morning gardeners. Yesterday was a total wash out. It rained all day. I did manage to thin the sweet peas and radishes. This morning is pretty chilly actually had to turn the heat on and even the pellet stove for a little while to take the chill off the house. More misery, they're predicting a little snow overnight tonight. This is crazy. The plan for the day is to get the last herb garden bed filled. The weather is supposed to warm up later this week so I should finally be able to get everything planted.

Snow. Boggles the mind.
Yesterday, in between bouts of rain,we cut down a ton of weed trees trying to get established in the "lawn". I use that term loosely.
One of my buff orps has been disappearing at night, so I'm expecting random chicks at some point. Ugh. NO MORE ROOSTERS! Please. And she disappeared right when I put the new chicks out, so feathers will fly when she comes back.
On the bright side, my peonies decided to have a super bloom after 8 years of waiting. There are three buds on a stem, so I'm clipping the middle blooms, but the stem is too short to do much with and there's so many. I'm using a pie plate instead.

Peonies are pretty! I had tree peonies at my last house - they took 5-7 year to finally bloom, but they were HUGE and fragrant! Here they are when they finally decided to bloom, with a little friend for size comparison! I would like to put some in at this house, but I'm not completely sure where to put them yet, and they are quite pricey per plant!

Beautiful!
I love that little blossom far to the right! ;)
She’s gorgeous....what the heck the flowers are as big as her head

Still raining here. Overcast, cloudy, rainy, but at least not a heavy rain.

I think there is one day of sun in the next 7 days - otherwise it is cloudy, rainy, cloudy, overcast. Oh, and humid, of course.

Glad I didn't put the veg plants in the garden yet, we've had some cold nights recently and tonight looks like the last cold night - although it hasn't dipped below freezing for awhile, still was colder than I would like for the plants to go in the ground. Will likely do that tomorrow.

I ran my pellet stove this morning to take the chill off. Tomorrow the high will be in the 40's. Brrr.

Oh yes! They were really huge flowers - literally would look like those crepe paper or tissue paper flowers that people make for parties - really huge! And very strong scent - which was unexpected for a non-rose flower!

Here is that tree peony a few years later - it has grown taller from the above pic. The woody stem stays above ground and they grow some each year, putting off a few new stems each year. Bonus: no ants!
