What did you do in the garden today?

I can in no way make them taste like the ones I was taught. That lady could cook!! I swear she used some secret recipe :lau
But they're still yummy

I know what you mean, I can't either. The best I've had were from a guy who used to cook at our office. He'd come in once a week and I would always order those with his hummus and pita. So good!

Good morning gardeners. Spring apparently is really springing today. Highs in the low 60's today and long range forecast is for warmer and dryer weather. Nothing happened in the garden yesterday. It rained all day of course. Today is planting day. All my cool weather plants are doing well. Sweet peas, radishes, lettuce, spinach, turnip, onions and broccoli. I have replacements for the tomato and basil plants that got drowned out these past few weeks so they will go out today. The grass is so green from all the rain but I'm sure it will be growing fast with the warmer temps. More mowing. Have fun in the garden today.

Good morning gardeners :frow

It's going to be warm out there today. No gardening, but I'll be taking out some cool treats this afternoon for the flocks and coveys. I have some cukes in the fridge and some ice blocks to put out. Maybe toss out the last of the blueberries too.

Have a great day everyone :)

Getting ready to plant the last raised bed!

Yesterday I planted up 2 beds with tomatoes and peppers. One bed is 16'x4', it also has some butternut squash and yellow crookneck squash. I think this might be a problem as the Crookneck are behind the tomatoes I planted, so they will get first morning sun through about noon sunlight, then will be behind the tomatoes. Maybe the yellow squash will grow and produce before the tomatoes grow too thick. The butternuts will grow up a sturdy chainlink fence, so I'm not worried about them, but I don't think that the crookneck vine up anything, but stay on the ground - does anyone know?

The other bed I planted is maybe 4x4 or 4x5. It is my compost pile...but not fully decomposed. I figured those volunteer tomatoes that grow at the edges of trash piles or similar always seem to do really well, and this pile is chock-full-of-worms, so since I cant use the compost yet, I turned this over really well, added some good dirt to the holes and planted some tomatoes and peppers in it....they might be the best producers, we will see!

Today, I will plant up the remaining bed. It is also 16'x4'. I have already planted muskmelon seeds (3 types across 6 mounds), so I only have a partial bed to plant. I will be planting more tomatoes and peppers. I may add some carrot seeds to the very front of these beds (the side that receive more of the the afternoon to evening sun). This worked well last year to have some carrots in with the tomatoes, but I'll seed more lightly this time and I'll wait a couple of weeks to do this because I already planted some carrots in a different bed.

Still cannot find my other packet of beet seeds! So I only have one type planted. Maybe they will be found by mid-summer so I can plant some for a fall harvest.

Wow @Acre4Me. You certainly are getting things done. I'm taking a short break. Just finished filling the herb / flower beds with dirt and compost. No more dirt pile in my driveway, YAY. Did a quick peek at the big garden, my radishes are doing really well and my leek seeds have germinated and are breaking through the dirt. I'm so happy all the heavy stuff is over with. I should be able to get most of the vegetable plants in the ground today. I'll hold off on the squash plants as those need to fully develop their secondary leaves. Here's a shot of the herb garden. I put in 6 inches of dirt and compost with cardboard at the bottom. I think it will look pretty good once it is planted and growing.

Did you put a weed barrier or something around the inside of the lattice to keep dirt in? I have a TON of unused lattice and this would be a great way to reuse it.
