What did you do in the garden today?

How do these compare to common cherry tomatoes???
I kind of know that Yellow tomatoes tend to be low in acidic flavor.
And WELCOME HERE,,,,,,,,, and :welcome
These are the sweetest little yellow tomatoes that I have *ever* tasted. They're even sweeter than yellow pear tomatoes, which I will also not be getting this year. :-(

And thanks for the welcome! :-D

:gig:old
Had no IDEA the summer heat would affect the bitterness of lettuce:idunno. In my zone,,,, no one is eating garden lettuce yet, unless they had it
pre-planted in containers indoor, or greenhouse.
Welcome to :welcome, and would be nice if you included your General Location in your profile. This way the peeps would know why your plants are blooming and ours are not:)

Yeah, I suppose I should have filled in the profile.

Yes, the age of the plant and heat affect the flavor. There are ways to mitigate it tho. Pick early in the morning putting the lettuce in a container with cool water. Once in the house clean and put in the fridge for a day or two before eating.

I'm in south Texas so the garden is in play year around. Cold crops have to be planted in Nov. or Dec. and covered with buckets or hay during freezes. I've tried growing them in starting in spring and it just gets hot too quick. Some areas of my garden are in the third planting.

I did much of nothing in the garden today. Got the last of the bricks and rails painted for a raised container garden yesterday, swapped them all around so now it doesn't hurt doing all that bending over. Planted a few things I still had in pots. DH picked up the wood for my mini raised area and cut them to size. My job is to fit them together, lay cloth down and get planting. Yay!
I had trouble with Lowes this year. Bought a hot banana, turned out to be a green pepper. Bought a zucchini, looks like it's going to be a cucumber. Not really fond of cucumber. I'll harvest a few and then rip it out, couple of them 4" long. Well, at least then I can get my trellising right. It's draped all over the place.
This is my first year really trying it. My sisters had one when I was about 4. That really sucks.
My attempt! Or rather DH and daughter, but guess who gets to take care of it. I haven't a clue what to do except water and bring in over winter. I'm bad with over winter plants, we have a wood stove, so super dry.

My plants have not produced but the first natch of spinach then it bolted so fast have lettuce planted more spinach do not see it doing much
I'm having the same problem with my spinach, but I planted it for the chickens, so I'm not too upset. I just keep picking off the tops and feeding them to the chickens. I got about 60 grubs out of my garden today!! The chickens were thrilled!

Good morning gardeners. Nothing happened in the garden yesterday. This morning I picked some more radishes. I noticed the French Breakfast radishes I planted about a week ago are popping through the soil. I thinned the leeks a bit. It got a little nippy last night and was in the mid 40's this morning so the spinach and broccoli are liking it. I've been using a heat resistant Romaine lettuce seed the past few years. It does really well here and I've always managed to harvest it before bolting. The first lot of the lettuce should be ready for picking next week. It will be nice when I don't have to buy vegetables from the supermarket again. The plan for the day is to finish the last of the grass trimming and planting my little daffodils. Have a great day everyone. :)

Weeding in the garden, then will mulch with some straw. Last year, we had a tough time with one end of a particular raised bed, which dried out fast and often. Had to water it 2x per day on the hottest days. So, it’s been turned and amended with vermiculite and perlite since then, however seems to still want to dry out quickly (just not as bad as last year). The straw mulch should help retain the moisture.

Need to plant the Chicago Hardy Fig -we figured out a sunny, yet more protected spot for it to go, and need to get it planted.

Any recommendations for ordering fruit trees? We would like a plum, an Asian pear, and an Apple tree. We are not sure what would be a good nursery to order from. We are in western Ohio.
