What did you do in the garden today?

They are also called assassin bugs. They got the name kissing bug because they will bite your face and lips while you sleep. It isn't very common anymore for that to happen as most people treat their houses with spray. They are usually active at night, as they are noctural, but you can find them in dense bushes and brush during the day. Ugh. They are awful. The few times I was bit was when I was a teen, and was out hiking in the woods, and disturbed them in the brush. One got between my skin and shirt.
I just had to look them up. I don’t think we have them in the Desert. They’re beneficial it seems except they’ll eat ladybugs that part I don’t like.

WIND!!
All right all ready!
By 10:00 it’s goin’ pretty good doesn’t stop till the sun is down. Did weeding and watering this morning.
Grapes & Raspberries are setting fruit ... I’ve lost so many blossoms and flowers.
I think I cut my berries back too far (Small bushes) they’re not even 1/2 the size they were this time last year.

I can’t believe I’m still getting asparagus spears I won’t cut these I’ll let them fern out.

Yummy Pics!

PHEW. 94 degrees with a dewpoint of 79 which makes our heat index of 111 degrees. Sticky wet, and HOT. NO WIND.

I turned the irrigation on in the garden for a while, hosed off the alpacas, gave everyone cold water, filled the kiddie pools, made a puddle in the run for the girls. I tossed a cold watermelon off the deck for them. They're SO HOT!

Great weather for growing tomatoes and corn though.

I noticed the soybean longhorn beetles are back. I've only seen them eating alfalfa, tanglefoot, and soybeans so far. THey're new here, and no one really knows what they like to eat. Haven't noticed if they're chicken candy yet.

No huge plans for the weekend. Trying to keep things cool and growing.

We had a hot, humid day here as well! We weren't supposed to get any rain, but we just had a brief, very noisy thunderstorm roll through. I'm sure the garden appreciated the water! Checked the garden, but there wasn't much to do in it.
Came home today with the plan to cut some more grass and butcher a meatie, but wasn't feeling good. Too hot I think. I even rolled up the windows on my car and turn on the A/C. Then took a nap ( after I got home :lau:gig). I feel better now. However, the meatie got a last minute reprieve for today. I'm sure she appreciates it! :D

Today, first day of retirement!

I added compost to one of the gardens that has been washed out repeatedly by rain, and my new wood chips on top! (3 yards delivered yesterday by our local tree service, free!) Watered the asparagus and potatoes, and the new grass near the raised beds. Played with the chickens. Did some laundry and some paperwork. Drank a beer with DH when he came home from work around 2:00.

Chatted with the postmistress and bought some more compost. (Truly, nothing left in those beds but rocks, sand, and seedlings.)

It was warm and sunny. If this is retirement, I'll take it!
