What did you do in the garden today?

Today I took more foliage off the tomato plants, and a bit off the zucchini so I don't keep missing them.

I've never grown corn before. Local farms don't have sweet corn in yet, so I'm not late, but my corn is about 4 feet tall and no tassels or [blossoms?] yet. What should I look for? Is my corn behind the times, or going wrong, or am I just impatient?

Nah Farmers fertilize like crazy. Our corn is about 8-9 feet tall in the fields. In the gardens it's only about 5 or 6 feet. corn planted tightly also grows taller as it finds and follows the light.

It will tassel on it's own, when it's ready the tassel will droop and brown.

You think garden pests are confined to bugs, critters, viruses, but my kid has become a pest! Kid keeps picking the not-quite-ripe tomatoes and peppers and bringing them in. Not a huge problem bc they will ripen on the counter. However, we planted several varieties of peppers and tomatoes to see which we like. When they show up inside, we don’t know which are which! And when asked, kid says “I think it was second from the end... oh wait, maybe the one next to that...” <sigh>

Good morning gardeners. Not much going on in the garden. I trimmed some of the leaves from the tomato plants and picked some basil to put on my pizza tonight. I noticed I have a 6 inch zucchini hidden away under the leaves. I think it needs to plump up some more before I pick it. The cucumber plants are getting loaded with small cucumbers. Future pickles! It dawned on me that I could put the soon to "expire" pickles from last year into the basement refrigerator. That should keep them safe to eat for a while. I picked 2 more jalapenos this morning and noticed that my poblanos are not producing yet. They did have some blooms on them last week but they are gone now. The butternut squash have male blooms on them but no sign of any squash babies. They should be developing very soon. I need to get the backyard grass mowed today since the temps will be going up a lot starting tomorrow. Quick note on the "baby" chickens: all three have started laying. The older hens are still giving them a hard time, but it is a little better. Have a great day everyone.

I have the soaker hose going, I may have to water still by hand, the soaker doesn't do a great job.

Ate our first tomatoes this am - the sun gold are starting...

Not looking forward to yet another week of 90+ and humid. I need to move to Greenland!

So in about 2 days this happened:

Tomato has completely wilted. Is this a virus? We did water it in case it was dry - and I had not watered it bc the tomatoes looked fine and I try to deep water less frequently. I suspect a virus or something. Any ideas?

Other tomatoes look good. Even the tomato next to this one is fine. It is a different variety. The same variety as the wilted one is in another bed - also fine.

Now for the tomatoes on the plant. I think they need to have at least white shoulders to be able to ripen on the counter/inside. Anything with color is also going to ripen. But there are small/less developed ones on the vine too.
