What did you do in the garden today?

Realized many of the dried beans were ready to pick since the outer part was paper-dry for the oldest pods. Here are the there bush varieties picked and shelled. My pole beans are also for drying, so I am happy to see they are finally producing beans...should be able to get a crop of dried beans from them before frost.

I have never ate any of these varieties. How will you use them?
BTW,,,,,, never met a bean that I did not like:drool:drool:drool

It can be any of those, but by me we only have Squirrels, and they have been munching on neighbors tomatoes. My toms are not producing yet. (planted late). Half eaten green tomatoes in my Lawn/Yard. :(
BTW,,, did you enjoy your vacation?. :highfive: Did caretakers take good care of your garden in your absence?

ETA.. the Tomcat Repellent may work for you. It kept the squirrels out of my flower post after I treated the pots with granules on surface of soil. It is also water resistant unlike the other, Critter Ridder, which needs to be reapplied after rain.

Yes! I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation! I posted a selection of pictures in my previous post.

Bean soup is how they will be used, although the black beans may get used in other dishes. My bean soup is cooked with ham or smoked hocks, some herbs, in a slow cooker all day. Beans are quick soaked and cooked prior to use in the soup. My family rates bean soup very high in their favorite foods list, so they also agree beans are good. The pole beans I’m growing are “Good Mother Stallard” beans...probably one of the best and creamiest soup beans I’ve ever used. “Hutterite Soup” (I think I spelled that right) was also very good (creamy and tasty) the year that I used those. I always use 2-4 kinds of beans in my bean soup for the variety and creaminess to firmer texture.

Good morning gardeners. Those beans sure look tasty @Acre4Me. I finally picked 3 tiny tomatoes this morning along with another zucchini and yellow squash. I made a triple batch of squash fritters yesterday. I got 30 medium sized fritters all in all. Two were dinner last night and the rest are in the freezer. I have a bunch of cucumbers that will be ready for picking either tomorrow or Tuesday. I need to carve out some time to make pickles. Peaches are coming into season here now and I'm planning on canning peach preserves again. This month is shaping up to being super busy. I put in my order for wood stove pellets yesterday. I just made it under the wire because apparently the prices are going up even more after the end of this month. I have carrots that I planted in with my leeks. I've never grown carrots but I think they push themselves up near the soil line when they are ready to pick. Is this correct? Also, I let my French Breakfast radishes go to seed. They have formed seed pods. Should I let the pods dry on the plant? I may do this with my white radishes as well so I won't need to buy seeds next year. Your input / advice is greatly appreciated. Have a great day everyone.
