What did you do in the garden today?

Made the giant shop curtain to help slow the drafts in the barn.

I still have two more to make, I'll do that in the morning. Then I need to get a couple of tension rods next trip into town. These will lower the height of the stock doors to help with snow blow later.

I also finished stripping DS room of childhood and vacuumed and dusted, filled holes and prepped it for painting tomorrow. Then I'll let it set for two days, rewire all the sockets and switches, and then get it put back together and start hanging things next week. All grown up like.

Hi all :frow

I guess I'm the outlier as usual, I love this time of year! I like the darkness at both ends of the day, of course it means great weather here but I like going out in the dark in the wee hours of the morning. I've seen the silhouettes of the owls as they fly over in perfect silence, scared the hell out of a neighbors cat that was skulking around and sunrises are especially beautiful when you know you won't melt later

It's only 0320 here but I've watered the garden. I need to make a pass through it this afternoon to see how things look but I can say for sure the peas are growing. The mesquite tree is doing great, I was worried about it but there's a ton of new growth now.

I'm going to cut the lemons off the tree, I need to get out there and give it a trim and we got off schedule with fertilizing.

I had 3 batches of chicks this year, the last batch hatched a couple weeks ago, so I've moved a bunch of pine shavings, pellets and chicken poop into the coop yard and have started wetting it down once in a while. I use deep litter in the coop and love the earthy smell of it after it's been wet down and stirred. I plan to rotate that out to the mesquite tree next Spring before I deep clean.

It took me almost an hour to type this because the puppies needed a game of ball first thing this morning. Squeaky ball no less.

Have a great day everyone :)

Worked on burning out some more of stump # 3 and canned some pumpkin ( in the pressure canner now). I also made seasoned pumpkin seeds # 3 ( the one with Worechestershire sauce). My hubby said this is his favorite of all of them.

That sounds like an interesting combination, how did you prepare them? Nice haul on the pumpkins too!

Good morning gardeners. Well, Winter has arrived. My weather app said we were getting snow flakes around 10 to 11 pm last night, but I was snoring by then. The chickens waterer was a little frozen this morning. Not too surprised as it was in the 20's last night. I wrapped the chicken run yesterday. That went pretty smooth, however I had added an extension to it in the Spring so I ran out of shower curtains and had to use plastic sheets on the new part. I'll be heading to the store tomorrow to pick up more shower curtains. They are heavier and are much easier to manage. I moved my fig tree into the garage to over-winter in there. The temperature has jumped up to a balmy 32F but it is really windy so very little outside work today. Tomorrow is supposed to be a bit warmer, however Sunday looks like best day to do some gardening. I will be digging up the dahlias and planting daffodils. Have a great day everyone.
