What did you do in the garden today?

It was not too cold here but foggy and dreary looking. It did eventually rain (after trying to most of the day).
Went to my niece's today to celebrate Christmas again. Took my son, his daughter, and my mother with me. We spent 5 hours there. It was nice to get to visit everyone. Hubby stayed home as he is sick again.

Hope DH feels better soon. Lots of junk going around this year... I'm still not 100% myself, making the list of top 10 of crummy colds in my life for me.

Good morning gardeners. Nothing happening in the garden. Our pleasant temperatures are about to be crashed with a hefty ice storm heading in overnight tonight and going through early Tuesday. I really hate ice storms. I'll be focusing on pre storm preps today in case we lose power. I'm thinking I should get fresh lamp oil since what I have on hand is really old. I haven't used the lanterns since Hurricane Sandy so it's been awhile. I made my sourdough waffles this morning. I got 10 Belgian waffles out of this batch. So I won't need to make them again for 10 weeks. I freeze them and only have one per week on Sunday. I added a little vanilla extract this time. So good. I bought a lock for the chicken run door so I can lock up on days I have a lot of errands. Love the baby blue color on the truck @TropicalBabies. Very nice. For those of you in the path of this latest storm that is sweeping across the U.S., please be careful. Have a great day everyone.

That is really cool! Do you use the lumber yourself or sell it? Are the tree(s) from your property?

rain all night and most of the day today. First time getting to see where low spots exist (or new ones created) since we put out all that dirt, and rearranged. So far, so good. Water is flowing where we want it between the yards. But, now see more of a low area just outside of the area we added dirt - so it never had dirt added there, and is now the new low spot. Well, we will just have to address it in the future sometime, and we will see how fast it will drain from this rain storm.

We managed over two inches of rain and then ice on top of that. Now it will be the snow wrapping around the back of it. MOST of which will miss us. People just an hour west of us are looking at 8-10+ inches. I'll pass on that. I'm not a fan of chores in the snow and cold.

I LOVE those portable mills. We took down a 150 year old Mulberry tree and gave the trunk, which was HUGE, to a local millwright. The inside of that trunk was spectacular! Purples and reds and sienna. I hope it seasoned out well for him. It would make fabulous desk and table tops.

The latest pieces are off the loom. The old linen warp I was using was breaking more than it was helping, so off it came. I am now plotting out the next project. A nice Tartan.

I'll also work a little on the bath remodel. Sand the walls and texture them. Then tomorrow I'll prime so I can paint and get the new light up so I can SEE properly.

As for growing things......I'll try to keep the pointsetta alive for as long as I can, again.

For a couple of day I was toying with the idea of building another coop, either for bantams or for quail. Then it turned into a green house, then back to a quail hutch. LOL. Then I tabled the idea altogether. I have to finished this bathroom and build another bee hive before Spring Swarm season. Plus the footing would need dug and set in concrete and that can't happen with frozen ground.

Way more fun than gardening!!!
We have a tree trimmer friend who mills his wood to sell. I picked up a few pieces of Mango and Tamarind and made really nice cutting boards for all of the kids. Good to know that the wood gets to live another life, kids love them.
