Where are you starting them I prefer mats

Only place i have room to is in my basement its half inground half out. The room they will be in get some sun but not much an the rooms around 65°

Rained again today but I planted some pepper and sunflower seeds because I need a bit of sunshine in this gloom. Super eggscited because I planted the mini sweet pepper seeds that I dried and have been saving. My daughter eats those like bugs bunny eats carrots! Also transplanted lettuce, celery, and chives to bigger homes. Forgot I have strawberries growing on our porch upstairs...they're coming up well along with the hollyhocks and goldenrod. I can't keep anything in the ground b/c of the feathered babies so everything is scattered. I guess free-ranging has its pros-cons Hoping to get more done tomorrow along with splitting wood with hubby. Praying for some dry pieces in the piles we have around the house...we shall see!

I would use mats for cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and other plants that prefer warm soil for germination. No need for a mat for things like cabbage, lettuce and kale that would germinate just fine at 60-65 (possibly cooler even). Lights might help prevent the plants from getting leggy, but wouldn't be needed until they actually sprout above the soil, which is a week or two after planting seeds in most cases.

Took advantage of the sun today to wall in the quack shack! Also got a jungle gym for the kids as a “quarantine gift” so I built that too. I’m even more pooped!

And then I lay down on the stall mats until DH called me in to dinner

Weather was nice in the afternoon, still warm. Expected to be a big drop in temp by tomorrow early morning. I took a long walk at a park since I knew the weather was going to get colder.

Today the chicks got their first excursion into the big boy and girl run!! Behind a fence, of course. The older chickens were very interested in the chicks. The chicks had to be tossed out and closed off from their brooder for about 15 min in order to become interested in their new environment, but when I opened the door into the brooder, they were going in and out freely.

Good morning gardeners. Good golly what a windy March. I got the supports setup for the hoop garden but didn't dare try wrangling with the plastic sheeting. Is was nice and warm yesterday. I let the birds out for a little over an hour and didn't need a jacket at all while I sat with them. I got a lovely surprise when I checked on my little winter heath plants. They have more than doubled in size and their leaves and flowers are all fluffy and bright looking. I'll try to get a picture later after the sun burns through the clouds. Nearly all my seedlings are coming up including the herbs. The pepper plants seemed to be the "slackers" but I know they really like to be warm and toasty before emerging. My azaleas are budding and the day lilies are breaking through the dirt. The weather should be OK enough for me to carry more dirt to the new garden bed today. As a side note, my backyard is tiered so it's like two giant steps up to get to the garden bed. That's why it takes a bit more "umph" to hump the dirt. I called the local food pantry and they do not accept eggs from Backyard Farmers. Wah! I guess I will put a sign in the yard. The coronavirus update in Massachusetts as of yesterday afternoon: 413 confirmed cases and sadly, one death. I've started a couple of shopping lists and hope to venture out on Tuesday. I don't need "tons" of stuff, but there are a few things I really need. I can't use milk products in my coffee so I need soy based coffee creamer and then there's yogurt, juice and flour. I can't buy these online unfortunately. All the grocery delivery services have shut down and I don't want to ask my neighbors because they have more frequent contact with others everyday so just doing the shopping myself makes better sense to me. I'm so excited to be getting back in gardening mode. To celebrate I made a peach cobbler yesterday with the peaches I canned last summer. Low sugar and quite yummy! Good Morning everyone, Today begins PA's shut down of non-life-sustaining businesses. This means I get to work from home beginning on Tuesday. Its a lot colder today then the highs of near 80 we saw yesterday. Today is sunny and breezy with temps in the low 50's for a high. I'll be working in the yard a bit once I get done work at 2pm.

OK. The boy is home and his stuff is piled in my studio space. He has two days to put it all away so I don't have to look at it or walk around it. Threats have been made if he doesn't keep things clean and dusted. I am not a maid.

Sunny but in the 30s today. Wind isn't bad, for a change, so I think while son's laundry is running, I'll let the birds out and dig some orchard holes and scoop chicken house out before we have rain on and off all week. Maybe toss grass seed in the boy's pasture.
