What did you do in the garden today?

Out of a few things my auntie wanted but I did not want to buy her Spam or corned beef anyways... I sent her over lettuce and banana's instead lol. She resorts to WWll Hawaii survival mode... wait she is always in it. lol. She must not be the only one because I could not find her corned beef at the smaller stores either lol. Banana's it is then.

OMG! My auntie still practices WWll mode even though she has a heart condition and shouldn't be eating any meat of the "canned" variety. And after my grandma died, we found so much canned meat in her cupboards she could have fed the lions! I have to admit though...both sets of grandparents instilled that "be prepared or be scared" in both my mom and dad, who then passed it down to me. Just like stashing cash under the bed...I have our food hidden in niche places.

Has anybody heard of this site? covid19.healthdata.org?
https://covid19.healthdata.org/It is pretty fantastic. You can see the projections broken down by states. This is the BEST CASE safe social distancing, wash hands, shelter @ home scenario.
I can get so lost in my rural world that I can forget what we are up against. On that note- Stay well all!

Yes! That's a good one TropicalBabies!! We also have announcements each day via the county at 2:30 PM. Even though my husband is telecommuting at this time, he is mandated to wear a mask (all county employees are - regardless of onsite location) if he goes outside the house, and only go out to get gas (ha! - we don't go no where!) food or medical services. We get lost in our rural world too. I feel bad for the people who hate staying at home. They must be going cuckoo for cocoa puffs!!

Good evening all. It has been very windy all day today but it was sunny and nice if you could take the wind. I was able to plant some lettuce and spinach plants that had been started and hardened off today. Finally got my tomatoes and pepper seeds planted as well. The mini greenhouse is fairly full and hopefully I'll have some other cold season crops to plant out over the weekend!

Good morning gardeners. OMG! @TropicalBabies, is that what blue sky looks like, it's been so long. LOL! We did get a little break in the weather yesterday and I was able to let the chickens out for about 45 minutes. That was about all we could take. Misty and chilly. Today it's rain and wind all day. I did get another soil test done and I think I'm seeing a trend: depleted soil. :idunno Guess I'll be looking up how much fertilizer to use on each bed. I do have some compost available to use so that should help as well. I started working on the plans for the coop extension. It's more of a grow out coop and run for new chickens. I wanted to make it large enough to brood and grow out meat birds in the future as well as pullets. I'm thinking it might be better to have the materials delivered before the anticipated coronavirus surge that is predicted for Massachusetts somewhere between the next two weeks. I can store the stuff in the garage until I can start building. This is normally my real busy time of year dealing with garden prep and chickens so the "social distancing" thing isn't too big of a deal right now. As long as I don't run out of TP, I can do this. Then there's the little matter of the annual auto inspection is due this month. I'm guessing they are allowing for extensions. Thanks again for the lovely photos all. And what a clever idea @karenerwin, I hope that mini greenhouse works well for you. Have a great day everyone and stay healthy.

Ice storm last evening, followed by howling winds, sleet and thunder last night. Currently 20 degrees with a windchill of 9. YUP NINE. The animals are not impressed.

Although out of the wind 20 doesn't feel bad at all.

I have a rush order from a local Reserve Unit, so I'll be sewing up a storm all day at least. Then it's back to masks and caps.

No gardening today.

Bravo and thank you!!! :love

Love the grow out pen @Wee Farmer Sarah. Think it brilliant! as is the greenhouse/wagon @karenerwin . Can't keep a good gardener down (for long ;)) Again Bravo @WthrLady

Our blue skies will be disappearing for a few days. We have a low/cold front spinning to our north that will cut our trade winds and pull moisture from the south our way. Our temps- 70 @ night to highs of 80 during the day- love that!!! Mosquito's are thick and ferocious, with the winds dying out they will be unbearable till the rains come.

I've got a decent showing of seedlings of all sorts. Will pick the straggler lettuce to make room for transplanting. Also pick remaining avocados and oranges, im sure all while getting bit to sh*t by squitos🦟:(.
Orange tree is starting to bloom and smells fabulous.

Did a massive text check in to say "hi" to all of my friends and family. I figure some are going a little stir crazy by now and a friendly chat is a nice distraction. Spending more time w/ AJ listening to her rambles and my son and I had a nice chat across the fence where i handed him some homemade beans, BBQ roast pork and brussel sprouts. I'm not much of a baker but I make a heck of a pot of beans, soup and BBQ.
k. better get to pasture. Wishing you all a wonderful aloha Friday. Stay well.
