What did you do in the garden today?

I am rechecking the calendar because it sure looks like January out there! Snowstorm, subzero temps. :sick The gardens are ready and waiting but my little plants are all hiding out in the house. I don't blame them. I did plant some peas outside and some of their little heads were starting to pop out so I covered them up. I hope they will be alright.
The peas will be fine unless you have a hard freeze of sub freezing temps for more than a hour or two.

Welcome to the gardeners thread most of us all over the maps here

Aloha garden gang,
A friend shared this little diddy and I thought it cute enough to pass on.
Cheers to all you garden folk, dancers and clappers for doing the work.
Stay safe and well this weekend and I hope you all get some warmer weather and dirty fingernails. (except for @igorsMistress... wishing you a nice breeze and a smoothie!) Aloha all!

Well you guys have that BOMB CYCLONE going on right now.

I had actually meant to ask what people were seeing about it, and what others are experiencing. Are others seeing this too?

And what's weird is I didn't see the mainstream news do any warning on the bomb cyclone. And this thing was supposed to be huge. I put a warning about it on the emerngecy/disease tab of this forum but nobody even looked and saw it. It made me wonder if I'd misjudged it.

But the way it looks, it seems like its going to hit half the US and make a huge cold zone right when everyone was doing spring planting.

Worked outside all day. It was just above freezing at dawn, like most of you. I didn't cover anything as, well, I didn't want to.

Today was sunny and 66, but with winds howling, you'd never know it. DS helped me rearrange the barn to make better use of the space. DH used the walking weed-wacker and did all the fence-lines. I cleaned most of the workshop, took out a 12 foot dead oak tree that's been in the ground for 2 years and just up and died this winter. So annoying.

The coop has been cleaned. I'm pondering concrete flooring in the runs. I hate mice and their tunneling into and out of the run despite tiny hardware cloth is driving me NUTS. Maybe just a deep barrier of concrete.

I put an 8 foot piece of plywood 2 foot wide, across out big wagon and put all the tomato flats atop that, so I can just pull the wagon in and out of the cold and ugh and back into the toasty garage.

The recycling has been taken to the village and dropped off.
And now it's raining. We're off to 32' tonight, but I can't cover anything with 37 mph winds howling. So I hope they die down before I go to bed. The only thing out there are raspberries, and honeyberries and strawberries....all of which should be fine.

Have a good evening all.

There was some warning. We were just hoping it was false news! 🤨 From other posts here, sounds like it was quite widespread. They are calling for more white rain tomorrow and again on Tuesday. 🥶 If this keeps up, I'll never get my plants in, or my coop finished! 😩

Transplanted the rest of the Martha Washington asparagus (we will have a scary amount of asparagus some day), watered raised beds (next year drip system), gave away more lettuce, piled more soil on the peas, green onions, and leeks, picked up those 30 fence boards (I'll post pictures of that project tomorrow), made and poured out gallons of fish fertilizer, and bought another 50' roll of coated 4' fencing. Love that stuff, so massively useful. Oh and set a 4x4x12 post with a birdhouse at the top. Going to set a section of horse panel against it and grow runner beans.

Little and big chicks totally integrated now so much less fuss with the coop and run. So fun watching them, the ones we hatched are soooo tame, they climb all over our hands and feet. So trusting.
