What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. @WthrLady love that planter! I couldn't have resisted either. @NewBoots looking good there! I watered first thing this morning. All the transplants are looking good, even the little ruellia starts I put in pots. I like the white ones more than the purple, there's just something about crisp, clean white in the desert that's appealing. Now I'm having a bag of Fritos with my coffee on the patio. Has anyone tried the stuff you can spray on your lawn to get rid of urine burns? I'm a little leery of putting anything on the grass that might harm the dogs or chickens.

Yes you can pet them :gig

We have 2, they're English bull terrier/American bull terrier (pit bull) mixes. Such sweet babies, they are very spoiled! My little girl there is Abby. This is her big brother Frank.

Ok wife and I discussed the Red Kraut thing further and we are settling on fermentation gear. Something like this or similar.
That looks wonderful. A few years ago when first wanted to try sauerkraut, I bought a kit to ferment in mason jars.
Dang it I am going to have to give making sauerkraut and pickled cabbage a try, I've been promising to for years.
My pink peonies are in full bloom so I thought I would share this shot. Also, here's a view of the vegetable gardens and the daylilies (not blooming quite yet). And yes, the potting shed is in desperate need of a coat of paint. It's on the list.
That is a gorgeous peony and I love your garden.
I've never grown cabbage either. In my head I feel like it's one of those trouble plants, like cauliflower or broccoli that have big nasty worms so I won't even try. LOL!
That's not helpful. :idunno I may try to plant some in the new garden bed that gets more shade and see how that goes. I'm a southern girl by birth, you'd think I could grow a flippin' cabbage.
The cabbage loopers totally murdered my broccoli this year. The only upshot is the chickens love the little green caterpillars. My cabbages are forming heads now in spite of the caterpillars, their mothers must have laid most of their eggs on the broccoli.
Mine are under cover since transplanting to the outdoors. I even managed to attract them when they were in the garage potting shed, where I frequently left the large doors open on sunny days.
I might try this next year. I tried spacing the brassicas out to keep the damage down but only picking the little beggars off by hand has saved anything. My broccoli are a total loss, they've hit the cabbage hard too but I stay on guard there, and they chewed a little on the Brussels sprouts and kale but those are clearly not their favorite. Next year maybe I'll put them all in one bed and cover it.

How are they with the chickens? So cute! They're built like a cinder block with a leg at each corner. :love We had a shar pei that was built the same way and she had the best sense of humor of any dog I've ever seen (miss her terribly). I've heard that bull terriers are the same way. Once our current little geriatric pups cross over we'll be looking to get a cross and/or rescue bigger dog, something that will look like it will protect two old ladies without ever actually biting anyone (well other than mice or rats).

Good morning gardeners, it rained last night and there's nothing in the greenhouse now but the seedling scarlet snapdragons, mimulus, and the potted okra, so not even much to water there either. I did finally plant those poor pop corn plants and gave them a load of bunny poop, the rain should wash it down good. Yesterday I wrestled one of the rabbit racks into submission and adjusted the shelves to make it much easier to clean under and behind. The bunnies in the tractor are having a great time, I was nervous the first couple of nights with them out there but so far so good. I might look at plans to add drop down wheels to make it easier to move.

:gig Perfect analogy! We don't call our guy Frank the Tank for nothing!

Frank doesn't care about the chickens but Abby would enjoy the chase, although if she caught one I don't think she'd know what to do with it We have enough control to call them off but I have a separate yard for dogs and they go into the chicken yard only after I rake all the poop up and before the birds are out. My flock isn't in a run.

The dogs are very energetic clowns. They need a walk every night and ours go to the dog park every weekend for off leash running, but we have the Bully 500 inside every once in a while. We play with the ball a lot and of course they are very protective of each other and us. Frank loves everyone he meets unless they give him a reason not to but Abby is more discerning. They've never been hit, just scolded which is usually enough. We do have E collars for them for particularly tough issues. I'm confident with a little work we could train them to leave the birds alone, but my daughter lives here with her dog who's not trainable in that way so we haven't done it yet.

I got your pm, thanks, @karenerwin . Is there anything else you want, while we're at it? I have some flowers, some trees. Seeds. most of my yard is medicinal herbs. Coltsfoot, comfrey, primrose, lemon balm, st johnswort, violets, Dandelions, thornless blackberries (triple crown), lightly thorny everbearing raspberries. Daylilies. Japanese plums. Ornamental grass, goldenrod. Zoysia grass! Periwinkle. Spearmint. The list goes on forever. Japanese maple babies.
Ohh, it's like Christmas!! Lemon balm, and the lightly thorny everbearing raspberries sound great! I've got plenty of violets, mint and dandelions! 😂 If you have any Black-eyed Susans I would love those!

I put the soaker hose in the raised bed garden and then watered the gardens.
Does anyone know if you bury the tall sprouts of a potato plant by bending it over and covering it with dirt or manure or whatever, will it put out more potatoes from there as well?
Mine got to tall for me to be able to add more material going up, but one had kind of fallen over so now I am covering that part with dirt and stuff. Not sure if I am wasting my time or not!
I also finally figured out that what I thought was a surprise sweet potato plant was really just a viney weed. So I pulled it up!
I wasted an hour and a half sitting at the hospital waiting to have labs done just to find out they didn't have my orders. I called the doctor's office, no one answered. I walked over there and talked to the receptionist and she told me they were all at lunch and would be back in about an hour and a half. I had already been fasting since last night. I wasn't about to wait another hour and a half. It was already 12:30. Unfortunately, I let that color my whole day. :he Oh, and the puppies figured out how to get in the chicken yard.
I was able to rescue the one hen that one of the puppies was "playing" with. I reinforced the gate so we will see if it is puppy proof now or not.
