What did you do in the garden today?

She went on hospice on Tuesday. I talked to her yesterday ( and encouraged lots of family to do the same). She was having a good day, sounded vocally strong and seemed to be able to get enough air. She said she thinks she will be dead in 3 or 4 days. Not sure how accurate that is but I don’t discount what the dying say. She is a bit confused as well though. She told me they only feed her once a day, if she is lucky. I know that is not true. She also told me she could only eat soups ( after telling me she had eaten chocolate covered peanuts that morning and then followed it up by saying she was thinking about opening a bag of microwave popcorn to eat!
She told my daughter that she tested positive for Covid. ( she did not). She also told her that she is in the hospital ( she is not).But the good news is that she is no longer afraid of dying. That is a big change for her!
I will call the director on Monday to see if they will allow us to visit. So far they have not reopened to visitors. I’m hoping they will make an exception. I guess I’ll find out on Monday.

Had a few days of clean up after the storm the other day . The garden made it through the 80 mph winds but a few sassafras trees did not . Had enough ripe tomatoes to can 4 quarts of sauce , would have liked to have waited a few days for more but the tomatoes were to the point of use them or lose them . The sauce is delicious . Made from a mix of the Super Sauce , Amish Paste , and a few Big Boys .

Today I finished pulling up the aspiring garden and spead bags of compost from coop cleaning and covered with tarps to prep for fall garden. Seeds being delivered Monday. A bit too excited.

Well experiencing drought conditions for the last 10 years or so and this year being the worst,I had to take matters into my own hands. I was at risk of loosing too much. I purchased A small gas powered water pump and the gear to set it up. Here are 2 short videos. The commentary is for my family.

Just finished cutting fresh picked cabbage for sauerkraut. Now I need to sit here and let my stomach settle. Never done the stuff before, might never again. OMG,beautiful, albeit small heads, but OMG the smell pit toilet at a camp ground. OC I have a strong sense of smell but DANG.

Yup, had to move the bowl outside. OMG. It was making me physically ill. Not sure I can even finish the kraut!

I was planning on making both pickled cabbage and sauerkraut with our cabbage and I've never done it before either, so what part of the process stunk so badly? You got me scared.

Does anyone know what to do with an excess of Roma tomatoes? I can't can them, mind you.

You might look into drying, or freezing them.

@karenerwin, My thoughts are with you and your mom. I'd say I'd been there but honestly, not being able to physically be there must make it even harder. Remember to take care of yourself, that will help both of you.

Thawed out a rabbit today and we're going to try Shake N Bake Bunny tomorrow, I can't wait! I still love shake n bake, I have the taste of an 8 year old.

Our crop of sunchokes looks like it'll be huge and I guess the best way to keep them is in the ground and dig them as we need them. You can pickle them too so I'll try that too. DP has wanted to be sure we can carry on if things go further south so the sunchokes look like a win. The greens work for fodder for both the rabbits and chickens and they all like them.

morning, just having a break from preparing the ground where i,m going to put chickens .lots of plants have to be removed the only thing really bothering me is the bindweed. got to dig a lge pampas grass up ,might leave for tomorrow .looks like rain so I wont be doing much else ,at least it will save me having to water tonight .
