What did you do in the garden today?

Been ignoring my garden, but that is about to change and so is my gardening time frame. I am hoping with this new project I can garden all year round. This morning i erected the walls to my deck green house. Its only 8 by 7 feet but I will be adding five more feet to the 7 feet next year.

The frame is up, waiting on a mail order part for the roof. Should be in sometime this week.

I have until Late October to get this completed. I will be gardening all year round I hope.

Not doing much in the garden today. Picked tomatoes and saw to the critters. Ran to the store for more ice cream to go with the huckleberry buckle we're taking to the bbq later. Froze more canning tomatoes (31 lb total now), and put more sliced cherry tomatoes in the dehydrator. It's hard not to just eat them all when I take them out of the dehydrator, they're like candy.

I love dehydrated tomatoes, gave myself a stomach ache one day lol.

Greenhouses usually get pretty humid inside, around here, anyway. When they are attached to the house, do you need any kind of moisture barrier to keep the house dry?

We don't have huckleberries here, so I'm really curious about those. It looks as though they can be related to blueberries, but there is another kind of huckleberry related to tomatoes. Which kind do you have?

Also, once your tomatoes are dried, do you put them in oil, or do you get them dry enough that you don't need to?

Wow! It took me a couple hours of reading to get caught back up here! I thought it was a bit funny that I have been canning pears today and was reading about others and what they were going to do with pears. So far I have only made sliced pears with cinnamon. 15 pints.
I still have about the same amount of pears left to still use. I think I will use some for a jam or jelly and then not sure about the rest. I also planned to try tomatillo jam and zucchini relish but haven't had the time to get to them yet. @penny1960 my tomatillos are getting eaten up by bugs. First it was the squash bug now it is the green/yellow ladybug.

On another note, my mother passed away in her sleep Sunday morning. I'm going to the funeral parlor tomorrow to see what we are actually allowed to do for a service. She pre-planned her funeral but that was pre-covid. I don't think they will allow us to have the sit down catered meal she wants to have. Plus I'm not positive that the restaurant she wants to cater it has made it through covid. It may be closed for all I know.

I am thinking of you, Karen. It's such a hard time to lose someone, when the traditions which bring comfort in grief cannot always be adhered to. Treasure all the memories and cry all the tears, in whatever way you can at this time.
