What did you do in the garden today?

We don't have huckleberries here, so I'm really curious about those. It looks as though they can be related to blueberries, but there is another kind of huckleberry related to tomatoes. Which kind do you have?

Also, once your tomatoes are dried, do you put them in oil, or do you get them dry enough that you don't need to?

We used to live where you could pick wild huckleberries, which are different from huckleberry bushes you can buy for your home. You had to wear bear bells while picking as they were also popular with bears. Now that we live so far away from our picking grounds, I buy my goodies from https://www.huckleberryhaven.com/, no affiliation just love their jam. LOL.

Snowing 2 hours west of me, and only 47 degrees here with a windchill of 38. I'm sure it will trigger the downfall of the garden.

Morning all.

Not much going on here today. I have a couple squash to pick, I can't believe they're still producing. My tomato crop this year is just crappy. My chickens have gotten half of it. Oh well, no biggie - I don't grow enough to sustain us anyhow. The lettuce in the pot is starting to peek through, can't wait for lettuce again. I'm sure I'll have another big haul of green beans, they are exploding right now.

I talked to the chicken lady today, my pullets will be ready in 3 weeks. This is a dumb time of year to be getting pullets I think! Winter care for no eggs, lol. I just hope I can get them integrated before winter comes, the other coop has no electricity.

I guess that's the good attitude I should adopt! I do have 3 pullets that will lay through the winter so I won't be eggless. Sorry about the cold weather, it seems a bit early but it is 2020 after all. It's always sad when the garden stops producing. Buuuut it means SNOW is on the way!!! Yay!!

Finally got a proper hydrant put in the veg garden, although it's still not hooked up directly to the house mains, but rather on an underground extension I put in years ago. Maybe I won't be constantly tripping over this one .

I gave up on through the sill water faucets . Replaced way too many . Quality is lacking . Went to one like you have . Less trouble .

Its actually not attached to the house, there is a five foot gap between the house and the green house. I may extend it 5 more feet next fall if I decided I wanted to have more space. If I do extend it there would be a vapor barrier between the siding of the house and the Greenhouse but it would be reflective material rather than clear. I can't say exactly how I am going to do things because I need to monitor heat and humidity during the winter. I have no idea what size vents I need or if I need exhaust fans. It's more of a learning process than anything else.

Wow, I never even knew bear bells were a thing! The huckleberries must taste fantastic to be worth it!

They're pricey buggers, I think I paid over $100 for this one (it's been sitting in the shop for a year, I don't rightly recall the exact price,) but it'll definitely outlast me, and probably the next two or three owners of the house. We don't have much of a frost line down here, so this one is a "one foot" frost line which is the lowest they make them. But it should see us through.
