What did you do in the garden today?

I know gas is better for cooking. But I can’t stand the smell. I’m also rather scared of accidentally blowing something up. I don’t like regular electric stoves either. I prefer a glass top stove. What I’d really like is an induction stove. It cooks and heats faster like gas but is safer and more energy efficient. The cook top never gets hot so it’s safer with kids and pets. It’s also a lot easier to clean than gas or electric since any spills don’t get baked on.
I use my induction top for frying. No splattering oil over an open flame. :D

Same here, I'm on city water in my town in the same state - they charge us x amount for the water we use, plus 2x for sewer because they assume we run it all down the drain. The best thing we ever did to keep water costs down, is collect rainwater and use that for the garden, chickens, and washing vehicles and other outside stuff. We definitely aren't short of rain around here!

Ahh talk to your town oe don't.. They seem to believe they own the rain water

I've never lived in a home with gas cooking. But did have a gas dryer in one home., and all furnaces have been gas, and most HWHs. I also wonder if I'd notice a smell from a cookstove that I was in close proximity to while it was burning gas.

as for blowing things up .... we had a guy come to repair a HWH in one home. He had to relight the pilot light, I recall. He was crouched down, but as far away from pilot as he could possibly get. He then says "If I run, you should too..." WHAT  How about you wait a sec, so I can get outside. He actually looked genuinely worried. But, it was in a drafty stone basement of a really old home, and it was in a wide open area, so no gas would readily accumulate in the area very quickly. So, clearly he was worried about blowing my home up.

Ya. There's places that collecting rainwater isn't legal. Like in Colorado. Nuts.

I heard that a few years back and couldn't believe it hasn't been challenged. Amazing that government thinks it owns the rain that falls from the sky....

ON a separate note, my garden is quite a ways from any buildings or water source. Right now I am using 4 or 5 hoses to get water to the garden when I need it. I"m thinking about setting up a couple of these DIY collection systems as a supplement.
