What did you do in the garden today?

The big deal killer for me is that I have a paved driveway between my garden and any water source....so I would have to direct bore anything under the driveway to get it there if I tried....

Want to know something even MORE ridiculous? The city has an open storm drain culvert that literally DUMPS all the storm run-off (and trash....) directly into my garden. That's why I had USDA come out. I was hoping they could help me figure out a way to capture it directly into a cistern or something, filter it, and make it usable for the garden. The good news is they CAN. The bad news is that it takes damn near 2 years to go through the process. I don't want to wait.
We ran the tubing through heavy duty conduit where I have to drive over it. BUT yay they CAN do something. But is there a way to get all that clean? Run off can have some seriously nasty crap in it.

I purchased some powdered milk and use it to add calcium. I know some people like to use smashed up eggshell. But this is a great tip...
I was terrified of blossom end rot last year and started adding powdered milk to all the peppers and tomatoes raised and potted too. Most also got a good dose of bone meal as well. This year I have a pound or so of crushed egg shells too.
I think @NewBoots buries her fish parts in the garden!
Yeah, we put whole small perch and the filleted carcasses of the bigger stuff in the raised beds when they were all being set up and filled. I'll add more this year when once I get busy prepping the beds for the new year. We also put them under every tree and shrub we put in the ground as well. No issues with cats, dogs or other critters digging them up, although we mulch and then place huge rocks around the plants to deter diggers.
We have a Pineapple Express on board so rain this is our winter temps in the 50's but rain gear if your smart
7' of rain here just last night alone and it's been raining all day so likely at least another inch.
Pulling ham and bean soup out of the freezer for supper.
DP made an awesome loaf of bread so I pulled a container of minestrone out of the freezer and it was lovely. I hope you're feeling better. And you're right, you drop out of a day or 2 and the board goes nuts!

I had to do that. I loved watching them root through the tomatoes and one even laid her eggs among the squash. The sight of chickens roaming across freshly mowed green grass in the afternoon was beautiful.
But, after they destroyed over $150 in roses, ate the figs off my young fig trees and ate all the young bean and pepper plants, I decided to fence them off. I have spent untold amounts of money buying dirt to fill in the divits in the yard the chickens made and it still isn't quite level.
Now, I plant a couple of tomato and squash plants in the chicken yard for them to enjoy and I can enjoy the rest myself.

I love these photos. They’re so sweet. Chickens cost so much. But these photos are priceless. Thanks for sharing 😊

Pictures of the 2 baby bunnies I got. Will get a picture of momma later. She is in a separate cage from these 2 boys.

Morning Gardeners, it is wet raining again.
Nothing happening in the garden
Yep, same here. What have we had, something like 2 days out of the past 60 with no rain, I think? I've been trying to do garden chores during random decreases in the rain, but it's been more like moving leaves mixed with mud, into areas of manure mixed with mud.

We're getting flood warnings, and our adjacent river is looking worryingly high.

Would love to know what apps you guys are using.... I looked for a decent app last spring that, at a minimum, would allow me to document when I watered certain plants as well as add oop-up reminders to my phone when I needed to water, fertilize, etc... Wasn't able to find anything like that. Honestly considered writing my own app altogether but I simply didn't have time.

Sooo.....sounds like some of you have done a lot more digging than what I did. Anyone got a good one to share?
I use the Territorial Seed garden planner.
