What did you do in the garden today?

In late 2018 I purchased alpine strawberry seeds from Burpee. Reviews indicated a few months in the fridge helped germination. Packet said seeds could take up to 30 days to germinate. So, I started them in January. Some germinated in 14 days. Some took closer to 30 days. And I got a little better than expected 60% germination!

first year, they were setting roots, so we got a few little berries. Last year, they gave us many more. And all season long. They are in their pots in the garage for the winter and producing a few tiny flowers for the past couple of weeks. They are hardy. The berries are small but flavor packed. The taste is different than a regular supermarket strawberry. We had some in a large pot on the deck, along with 2 geraniums, and they looked so nice together!

Good morning gardeners. I’m waiting for the sun to come up so I can go water and let the ducks out, then house cleaning for me today. I purchased bare root strawberries and put them in with the herbs. I doubt they’ll live thru summer here. I think it’s time to replace the shade on the enclosed garden. Right now the top and entire west wall are covered.I’m going to keep the top still but add shade half way down three sides instead of all the way down on the west side. The south side let’s in the winter sun so that will stay completely open. I have a couple of shrubs outside the west wall that will help shade the low stuff inside from the summer sun but I think this offer more air flow in there. Measuring that today and ordering the shade cloth this afternoon. Anyway, time to get busy with house work, have a great day all!

Good morning gardeners. The ice storm is moving east and is expected to hit us tomorrow. The temps will be near 40F but the ground temp is frozen and totally covered with snow and ice already. I loaded up on last minute food items, wild bird seed and ice melt so we're ready. I like the idea of growing the strawberries in pots and then overwintering them in the garage. I may try that this year. I have my new stove and exhaust fan installed. It's nice not to have contractors showing up at 8:30 am for a change. Additional renovations are on hold until I get the bill for the latest round of work. I'm halfway through painting the living room and it's looking great so far. I'm baking bread today and hanging my new spice rack. I'll get back to painting tomorrow.

Morning everyone! I'm back from vacation - a long 3 weeks on the road & I'm happy to be home. Looks like they did an upgrade here. What'd I miss?

Came home to the garden fence down because the plow guy didn't have enough room to get by (not his fault, it's a tight squeeze) & 2 littles with bright red combs, should be laying soon. & my other hen that took the winter off laid a soft shelled egg so she's ramping back up. Oh & I'm letting the littles in with the big girls today...🤞

Also came home to a big bowl of lettuce ready to pick, that took forever:

I'm gonna try to catch up a little, but there is no way I can get back 3 weeks. Have a great day all. I need to go shovel some snow...come on spring!
