And, sigh, when I ame back to town I noticed that my adorable little easter egger pullet is starting to look male . NOT COOL. We already did this once with our wyandotte...*sigh.* Maybe "she's" just goig through a phase. Anyone who prays, go ahead and pray for that, haha.ook for a pink lemonade blueberry bush...and probably other pretty things. I haven't been to this particular store before, so pretty excited!!!

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't see anything that makes me think that is a cockerel. Looks very much like my ee girls did at that age. I'm betting that's a pullet.

So last season I was making compost tea out of borage plants, and it was great if really stinky. I'd fill a 5 gallon bucket stomped full of borage then fill it to the top with water, screw on the lid and put it in the sun for 2 weeks. Open it, strain out the plant material and mix the approx. 3 gallons of really smelly water 1 to 10 with more water and use it as liquid fertilizer. It worked great (I'd always need a shower afterward though) but the last 2 buckets got left all winter till today and frankly, I was afraid to open the tops. I opened 1 today and while it reeks, it seems fine and I used most of it to feed the plantings in the raised beds.

Well Friday it sputtered and died while I was getting ready to load bags of feed in the loader bucket . Had half tank of fuel but I topped off . Nothing from the starter . Had a new starter that came with it . So I put that on . Nothing . Had Orielies charge and test battery . Said it was bad . Replaced that and nothing . Panel lights up but would go out when I pushed starter button . Charged battery . Nothing . Watched youtube videos . One said it was sensor bad near thermostat . Said un plug it and replace blown fuse . No blown fuses I could find .

Check to see if the cables to the battery itself are intact. Sometimes they are in shields but they can be snapped inside. Enough power to start your lights, but not enough to crank over the engine.

4 flats of cherry tomatoes are transplanted, but have about two more to go. I need to mix more 'soil'. I'll do those and the little pumpkins on a stick tomorrow. MUST build the shelves and get things out of the sprouting shed. It's FULL and I have more to sprout.

Delivered a patio set for a friend and since I had the trailer hooked up, I went to get my 50 bags of mulch. And I cannot confirm or deny that a dozen chicks may or may not have followed me home.

Whew! Today we ran to the store because we needed a thank you gift for the neighbor who cared for the dogs and chickens while we were out of town. Mayyyyyy have bought a pot of hyacinths and one of tulips because they were so stinkin pretty .

Then did some more hacking back of ligustrum and 100% evil ivy, privet, and wisteria along the property line. Need to ask the neighbor if I can attack the roots that are in her yard.

The bush beans and squash are doing okay. The pot of mint is thriving (of course).

You're giving me hope! A few people have said the patchy feathers and 3-rowed pea comb are bad signs though. If you have any photos of yours at 8ish weeks, I'd love to see them to compare! Maybe in a message so we don't clog up the thread?

Ugh! The pea combs make it so tricky! I may stick to auto-sexing and sex-linked breeds after this. The suspense kills me. I've had a few people tell me the patchy feather colors (neck one color, chest another, etc) means male, in case that helps you decide about your suspicious chick.

OH but the chicks that may not have followed me home, didn't have food when I got here. I THOUGHT I had 20 more pounds. UGH.
Did a curbside pickup order and DH picked up on the way home for me, which saved me a trip to town or to the village tomorrow.
Little things didn't know what to do with the brooder plate. LOL. had to shove them under, now they're under and warm and toasty in the stock tank.

Good evening gardeners. You guys have been busy and everything is looking great! I’m just maintaining right now but there are new flowers on the artichokes The Arabian lilac is also doing well still, I read my zone could be too cold but I think someone was crazy when they wrote that! Most of the desert plants are blooming. I bought some stuff to keep algae from growing in the duck pool. It’s primarily in shade but does get some sun for a bit during the day. Got the spot cleared in the freezer to make ice blocks also and I have a container to use that I like more than what I used last year. The squash is taking off but the luffa not so much so I’m going to pull it next weekend if doesn’t look any better. I have two rosemary starts to plant yet but one is looking a little rough; they are currently soaking up some water before I go to bed. I’ll get those into the xeriscape garden tomorrow morning on my break, I’ve already got spots ready. Anyway, headed to bed in a few, have a great night all!

Here's a pic of Glyness at 9 weeks but it probably won't help much since you can't see her comb:
The color on her neck feathers made the feathers look pointed. But she laid at 20 weeks.
