What did you do in the garden today?

Good afternoon gardeners. I’m almost 20 pages behind Work is super busy and after work is too. I got outside to check on the ducks and they were in the pond today because the kiddie pool is gross. They came out to see meand followed me around the yard. Here’s a few pics from today. The Mexican bird of paradise is almost as tall as I am now and the artichokes appear to be winding down. There are more to harvest but the heat is taking it’s toll. Have a great evening all!

Either squirrel (think big squirrel) or an armadillo.

@TJAnonymous Do you have fox squirrels around there? We had them in Georgia and they could make a hole like an armadillo in a heartbeat. For natural repellant you might look into coyote urine, but other than that... well I know what I'd do but I can't recommend it exactly.

I have squirrels in droves, but no fox squirrels that I know of.... I'm pretty certain this critter was digging in the middle of the night so my guess is an armadillo. Do squirrels come out at night? I've never seen one after dark....

War has been declared on the weeds! I weeded the potato patch and went back over the everything I weeded yesterday with the rake. Then I mulched around the potato plants with pine-straw. I cut more stakes, hung up the bird feeder and watered the trees, grapevine, and radishes. I’m really impressed with how easy potatoes seem to grow! I’m used to having trouble with tomatoes peppers and root crops so I though potatoes would be a disaster.

Spent the morning installing 2 bidets ( buh days ) . Honey do . Taking a break . Warm enough to do outdoor stuff now . Cold water and no complaints yet .

We've had those self installed ones for a couple years now and cold water is actually kinda nice. Startling that first time though . I'll never be without them again. It was one of the first things I did when we moved into the new place.

Still working on getting the ladies used to being out of the coop and run. They did really well today, three of them were eating clover at my feet as I sat in a yard chair. Three more were cautiously scratching in the rocks outside the run door. Everyone came back to the run when I called them so it was a good exercise. Had to water again today, and it looks like it'll be at least another week before we get any rain. Not sure if I mentioned it before but my Italian Ice tomatoes are sprouting! The rest are coming along nicely. Some of the Maya Habanero peppers have sprouted as well and it didn't get below 35 last night so I'm crossing my fingers for no more freezing nights.

You know to hill the potatoes right? Also check if the variety you planted is determinate or indeterminate. Determinate you can hill once or heavily mulch and you are all set. Indeterminate you want to hill regularly.
