What did you do in the garden today?

For the feed bag weed fabric, can you lay straw over it to block the light? The feed bag still will serve the purpose of suppressing weeds and grass and keeping then from growing up through the added straw to find light. They should starve out then.

Yes, I bet that would work! Thanks for the tip....

Everything is done except the trip to Menards and the grass seeding. I'm under the weather. Yesterday I developed a sore through and nausea. Today the throat is still sore, the nausea comes and goes, my sinuses are all stuffed up and my nose is runny, I have a cough and various parts of my body are hurting. I scheduled a Covid test for tomorrow and am quarantining myself in the mean time, hence me not getting to Menards. Hoping it's not Covid, particularly because of the risk it would pose to DW and the kids. However, if it's not then I'll need a doctor appointment anyway to figure out what is going on.
Ick! Never a good time to be sick. Hopefully you get into the doctor and get the right stuff to help!

Irises are in full bloom now

My new plum tree is looking extremely pitiful. I have no idea what to do to save it. It started dying after I planted it in the duck pen. Even though they didn't bother it, I thought maybe there was a drainage problem because it started declining so I dug it up and moved it to a raised bed in the garden. Added some compost and covered it with mulch to help retain moisture. Hasn't helped. Still dying... I don't know what else to do....

And lastly I have these little (bleep) all over my driveway for the past 2 weeks! I hate them and kill every one that I come across..... GRRRRRRR

Interesting video .
I've got 12 tiny purple coneflower seedlings in the greenhouse but I'm growing them to attract beneficial insects rather than for consumption. Doesn't mean it doesn't have benefits, just means I haven't been convinced yet. :) @TJAnonymous, those irises are beautiful! And I hope your plum recovers. @BReeder!, I really hope it isn't covid or anything serious, be sure to get some rest.

I repaired the damaged bug house and hung both it and the mason bee house and built shielding around it. I'll add to the roof on it in a couple days.

:D Considering I planted the first few upside down, I may never have strawberries.
I planted a few shallots upside down last year, lucky for me they grew anyway. :)
I discovered I like to buy more than plant!
I hear you, it's like I think the garden fairies will plant them all for me.

Did some more bed prepping with compost for planting in June. Then took some photos of my lilacs and ceanothus blooming. After that, I came inside and made a short vid with some old pictures I found of the veggie garden when we first started growing years ago and contrasted them to pictures I took of the garden today.View attachment 2638741View attachment 2638742
Thats really cool. What app did you use?

How beautiful. You are a good gardener and a great video maker

Uh oh. That sounds like my covid experience. Get some over the counter pain meds, a thermometer, and a pulse oximeter (drug stores have them). And your favorite muscle ointment - I like tiger balm red. The pain meds and ointment help with the aches so you can sleep at night, and the thermometer and pulse ox let you keep tabs on your health. I found my body had a hard time regulating my temp at all, so my temp would dip too low if I didn't keep enough blankets, then too high if I had too many, etc. So I checked it regularly when awake to keep it in a normal zone. But my oxygen levels and heart rate stayed okay, so that was the main thing.

Oh, and warm non-dairy milk with plain cocoa powder mixed in helped a LOT with the covid cough. Add honey if you can't handle plain cocoa, but less sugar is better. (Cocoa is shown to help with cough.) Go with non-dairy milk since dairy can increase congestion. I also found that putting one of those vibrating back massagers on my upper back seemed to help break things up so coughs were more productive.

Anyway, not trying to scare you - you may not get the full experience I did, or it might not be covid - but those are my tips in case you do.

I did also find it helpful to get some sunshine (alone, in my yard, not around people). Not sure if the help was all mental or if the vitamin d helped a little? Regardless, prayers sent your way!!! And keep us updated.
