Mine won't eat anything they didn't kill (as far as I've experimented anyway). Heck they won't even go near a steak bone. But let them come across a live frog & all bets are off.

The forecast changed again. I swear it constantly changes here. We were suppose to have 5 more days of rain in the next 8 days. Now there's only 2 days of rain in the 10 day forecast. Plenty of cloudy days though. Tomorrow is full sun, which I'll have to find time to enjoy. Lows are in the upper 30s to 40s and highs are upper 50s and low 60s all week. My tomatoes and peppers are slowly growing still. The roots seem to have established themselves in the outdoor soil and now all the foliage is up and looking healthy. The tomatoes in particular went through a phase of shock and their leaves were looking a bit wilted for the first few days outdoors, but not any more. The zucchini is out there too and it didn't miss a beat while being transplanted. It's all doing very well. I need to put cucumbers out. And the squash, watermelon and pumpkin starts are ready to go but I need to get the beans in the ground first. I had to wait for the corn to sprout though before planting the beans - corn just broke through the soil surface yesterday so I guess it's time to get the beans planted.

I like both. Bush beans are easy to plant generally more heat tolerant and produce quicker and all at once. Pole beans are much easier on the back and produce more but over a longer period so you don’t have to do staggered plantings if you want beans all summer. people also think they have better flavor.

Thanks for info. My garden bed is elevated so bush will be better than normal to pick but I forgot about staggering them! I will try pole, I have honestly never grown them. Reviews are good for taste on pole beans. Thanks artichoke

Neither. They produce very little per plant. You need a whole bunch of them to really produce food. I gave up on green beans as well as peas for this reason.

@BReeder! - that's funny, I had the opposite problem with my beans. I grew so many of them I didn't know what to do with them all! I canned some (dilly beans) & blanched & froze some, I just ran out of the frozen ones a couple weeks ago. I thought they produced so well for my little garden that I'm doing exactly as I did last year, but I added a few bush beans to get some a little sooner. I had probably 5 gallon ziplocks full at the end of the season in the freezer, it's what DH had for lunches thru the winter.

Pole beans can be grown along a fence, saving space, if that is an issue for you. Bush beans can be grown within the fenced in garden so the deer don't browse them to death.

I've gotten more beans from bush because of the deer, so that's what I'm doing again this year.
