What did you do in the garden today?

I weeded my asparagus patch today. Yay!

Unless they're just really late starting, I have very few asparagus that are still alive. Boo!

I'm holding out hope that they're just really late coming up...

I uncovered my dog crate full of starts for 3 hours today. It was sunny and breezy, then clouded over. "Cloudy bright," as we used to say in photography. Everything is looking happy and green.
We had a meal of asparagus already. My FIL passed two yrs ago but had a awesome asparagus patch. Took MIL to town other day she picked a bundle to give us she doesn't like them or gardening.
He was a awesome gardener miss him biggly. Never forget prob 15yrs ago when he first started harvesting that patch of asparagus asked DW if she liked them it was the first time either of us had tried them. She says yeah, but I can't think of what they taste like.
He laughs and says, they taste like asparagus :lau

Yeah, couple weeks ago heard snow, no biggie ground warm won't stick. I was wrong. Got up late. Have to drive back roads for awhile figuring once I hit the main road should be good nope, couple inches covered that also couldn't break 45 with snow tires and 4×4, ended up late for work. Latter that afternoon people were mowing their lawns...just didn't seem right lol :gig
Yup! I’ve done it twice this year.

Planted 14 hills of butternut squash today. Almost got finished weeding the corn I have one row left. The first tomatoes are forming and will probably be ripe about the 4th of July. Normally we would get our first tomato in about 3 weeks but that last cold snap delayed stuff by about two weeks. Almost caught the snake pulled it out of the rafters with the catch pole but I underestimated just how much it weighed and lost the tension on the line and it got away. Next time I may just try to grab it; If I get bit oh well. It’s that or risking knocking a hole through the coop.

Speaking of hoses… I hate mine because it kinks like crazy. Unfortunately, it’s the only one that didn’t break in less than a summer. It’s a 50’ orange one from Walmart, and is now showing wear at the kinks. It is not leaking yet.
So, who has a hose they actually can recommend?
Get a solid rubber hose. My house cost me about $50. I think it is 100ft. It's the best one I've had so far. No special brand, but actual rubber not some poly material. It's more durable and thicker walled. Also, put it on a house reel so it always comes out straight. Coiling over a wall mounted hose holder spells disaster as it comes off in coils that lead to kinks when you pull the house if your not careful.

EDITED to fix typos. :)

I got chicken wire up on half the front garden fence with the 2x4 wire the rabbits are managing to force themselves through. No sign of new rabbits in the garden today. I need to get the rest of the wire up. I purchase a 25ft roll and cut it in half to make 50ft. Apparently I'm going to still be short. I may just use some plastic fencing I have to make up the difference. Otherwise I'll need to buy more chicken wire. I also need to rig up a an outdoor pen for the ducklings. Our drake is to interested in breeding to just let them free in the duck pen. So maybe I should just go get the extra roll of chicken wire.

80s during the day and 60s at night all week. Most of the garden should love it. Cool weather crops like lettuce, kale and brussel sprouts get a good amount of shade in the afternoon and evening so they should be alright too.

I did start to harvest small amounts of herbs now. DS had fun tasting all the herbs earlier today fresh picked from the garden. He seemed to like dill the most. He can't wait to be able to pick produce.

I think I got that. If you could stop drinking, and start with the part about the reel. “It comes off in cold” is the only part I can’t figure out.
Otherwise… two hoses. Both rubber, and have 10 year warranties. One comes out to $.50/foot, the other is $.75, and that’s on sale. The most expensive is $1/foot for hot water.

I meant "in coils". Sorry. Auto correct on my phone acts bizarre.
I am drinking though. A nice red wine tonight.
