What did you do in the garden today?

Morning. Went over my friends yesterday & picked up some habanero plants, going to get them in the ground shortly, thank goodness that awful heat broke. I need to water too since there is no rain in sight.

I also picked up 2 fig trees for my sister & stole all his rhubarb. He doesn't do anything with it so I steal it every year & make jam. I should have enough to make a batch now.

Waiting for Amazon to deliver some pyrethrin because I do believe I already have squash bugs on my tiny little squash plants. I swear if the pyrethrin doesn't rid them I will tear them out & buy squash. I'm not fighting them again all summer.

We got a bit of rain yesterday/last night. They're forecasting a soaker for tomorrow night, and I soooo hope they're right.

I'm gonna be busy planting/prepping beds for planting in the next couple days. This was my usual week for getting all things garden done when I was working. If I took the week before Memorial Day off, my coworkers complained Tuesday when I got back. So since the Wednesday after Mem Day was always insanely busy, I would look at them and say, "Maybe now you're glad I took last week off and not this week? You're welcome."

Being salary (not legal, I found out), I got really tired of working 60 hours and probably taking home less than what they did. And then hearing them complain.

I'm free! I don't have to do that anymore! Yay! :wee

Good morning all. The temps dropped dramatically yesterday evening. So refreshing. yesterday was my "lazy" day. I'll pay for it today. I need to get the grass mowing started today and the trimming and piling more dirt on the potato plants. I have more corn coming up as well as some more cucumbers. Still no sign of the butternut squash or the lima beans. Wah! I picked the last two mature radishes this morning and finally found where I had put my fruit tree fungus / neem oil spray. I sprayed the peach tree and the remaining apple tree. I might actually get a few pieces of fruit from them this year. :fl The cooler temps are really nice and hopefully I'll get some lettuce soon.

I have been working so hard all weekend around the farm. I'm hella sunburned and I hurt my Achilles tendon. It didn't rip but it burns really badly when I walk so I'm worried it will. My DH did that about 8 yrs ago. It wasn't pretty and he needed surgery to correct it.

I got the hoop house covered with insect netting. Not pretty but it's functional.

I also put in the new asparagus bed and transplanted a few ferns. That wasn't fun because the roots were really bound up AND covered in fire ants.

Lastly I took a major gamble and dug up the concord grapes to move them up on the fence row. DH thinks I should have left them alone. These are the grapes we thought burned down last winter. I wanted to move them because they are in an area that floods a lot because of the storm drain issue. They tap root resisted coming out so I think the roots were definitely damaged by the move even though I tried really hard to be careful. About an hour after I moved them they looked very wilted. I watered them really well so I'm hoping against hope that they perk up. 🤞

I also got the two Live Oaks planted that I purchased from the nursery. These are about 5 ft tall and looked very healthy so I REALLY hope they make it.
Garden looks lovely. Take care with your Achilles. I had the same burn a few years back- wound up with Achilles Tendonitis- had to wear a boot for 3 months. It was terrible, but the pain was worse- every step an agony. Hope that is not what you have.

I chased chickens through our VERY muddy backyard, it has been raining off and on for two weeks now.

Also found this slithering through our driveway. It’s a western rat snake. I’ve been trying to get the eggs in fast so the snake doesn’t get any ideas.

I would have picked it up (it’s non venomous) to throw it out into the field (they eat rats and mice) but my neighbor got to it first (showed it to his kids) then threw it out in the tall grass. Then they found a turtle and it crawled around in the driveway before a neighbor kid brought it home. My mom had enough of reptiles that day!
