What did you do in the garden today?

I did buy a walking onion since some of you guys have been discussing them. Trying to decide where i should plant it. I have a 20 gallon fabric grow pot. I thought I might start there and then scatter little bulbs somewhere else later. Any advice?

Find a place where you want onions to grow. Like forever, or until you don't want them any more. I have a walking onion bed that will just be for those.

What do you guys think? Will I regret an 8x12 purple building in my yard?

You can call the coop The Eggplant, since it's purple!

Got another plant in the ground, and then took more measurements of the yard. Almost done mapping the space. Looks like rain this evening though.

Well, I'm gonna have to keep working on my husband about the "Eggplant." He's not a purple fan. Maybe b/c he spent his formative years in the town the movie "Footloose" was based on and that is their color. He's being very diplomatic though. "I think that dark color will trap heat." Then when I mentioned that only one small side would get morning sun the truth came out. It was "Well, if someone gave me a plum colored Cuda with an awesome paint job I would drive it but....."

Ohhhhh..... I just realized I need to design a chicken tractor! For once I get to design something functional and pretty, how exciting. Needs to be lightweight, but strong enough to resist our largest predators: coyotes/feral dogs. Hmm, have to mull it over for a couple of days. Time for some research. Modified A-frame design perhaps... Dunno yet.

Picked my first strawberry! It was tiny, lol, no bigger than my thumbnail and I have small hands. However, it tasted better than any grocery store berry. Yum.

Draining the duck pond into the valleys between the raised rows. It's a lot of water (1500 gallons), but the ground is absorbing it quite well. Apparently we are in a drought here... we didn't get the usual storms at the beginning of May. I think the ground being dry is helping with absorption. I mixed in leaves for two years now to loosen up our clay heavy soil. It must be working because the clay wouldn't absorb water this quickly.

Tomorrow evening I'll likely be mucking out the duck pond. Then on to raising the sides like I planned to this year. If I'm lucky, I'll get the filter lowered into the ground to be level with the top of the pond so I can finally switch to a bottom drain and skimmer (both will be DIY'd). It's a lot of work now, but will make maintenance with the ducks so much easier.

@Sooner Magnolia Haha! I'm a dessert white wine sort of person. It has to be sweet for my darn sweet tooth. But, I'm also a fan of rich, highly saturated pure blues, so leaning that way.

Funny thing happened. All our local stores were sold out of my favorite wine coolers all summer long. Couldn't get them anywhere. Then I got pregnant, and magically they all restocked! Looking forward to September.

Well, the two tomatoes I overwintered, sungold and momotaro, bit the dust. Both looked droopy over the weekend so I took some cuttings to root and drenched them but it didn't help. Probably nematodes. I did get to pick one last basket of sungold today, though.

Does anyone here graft tomatoes?

Isn't that funny. I'm more of a dry cabernet and maybe very dark chocolate if I want something sweet person. Variety is the spice of life for sure! Glad you're settling in! What town are you closest to now?
