What did you do in the garden today?

Went out at 745 to dust the alpacas and water the garden.
Alpacas wanted nothing to do with coming out in the sunshine/heat. I don't blame them. After walking down the hill and up the hill, my lungs were already screaming.

I hand watered the chicken garden, and am considering making it a permanent thing with real posts and fencing and all. The natural water flow there is great from the drainage from the upper yard. Hmmmm. :::channeling my inner Winnie the Pooh...think, think, think:::

I turned the irrigation on in the garden while I pruned and tied up the plants for the first time. It took me far longer than I thought, so it won't need water for a week. But I'll watch it any way.

There is NO air out there. There is a breeze but all that's doing is blowing around all the tree and grass pollen, which is off the charts. A shower is calling as soon as all the gook in my head a chest settle back down.

The mulberry tree is RIDICULOUSLY full of berries. The raspberries are loaded, and we have baby grapes, so I MUST get bird netting. I already lost 90% of my honeyberries thanks to Bernadette Bubble Butt, the sneaky little berry thief.

Still thinking about the loom. Dang it. She didn't look like the type to take good care of things, so I'll really have to look it over and see how much work I'd need to do to it. If the wood is too dry or rotten, it's a gonner.

You have some very determined ladies! I never let more than one go broody at a time when I had buffs. Needed the egg production more than I needed chicks. Couple of weeks, let dh get settled into the new job and get paychecks rolling in, and I'll be looking for either hatching eggs or chicks.

He is determined to have more buffs, dang it. Ah well. They were good girls. I can't debate that.

Had I realized that the Black Australorps were broody, I probably wouldn't have bought Silkies but who doesn't love fluffies? DH is a bit concerned by how fast our flock is multiplying. Going to have to sell chickens or start butchering some....

I've actually got a little situation with the broody I posted last night but put it in a different thread

I went to the garden store & got new habaneros & jalapenos & picked up a bee balm that was on clearance for the bee garden. Also got a planter to tuck the hose in for my new spigot in the garden.

I think it's too hot already to plant any of the new stuff so it'll wait till early tomorrow am. But I do have to go outside to move the tractor & park it in front of the coop - I put the screen door in for the girls & like to park in front of it. Not that it would stop a bear, but maybe. DH thinks I'm crazy. :gig

Lemon cukes are GREAT!! I grew them 2 years ago, by accident - they were mislabeled. I'd never heard of them or seen them & my kind garden friends here helped me figure out the mystery. Strange looking cucumber! :gig
Huh, never heard of those before. You eat them raw like other cucumbers or do they really need to be pickled to appreciate the flavor?
