What did you do in the garden today?

Harvested most of the garlic now and the garage/barn smells like garlic . Planting tomatoes as fast as space is made, a mix of single stem indeterminants and tomato caged determinants. Most of the lettuce and other greens are out but I still plan to keep replanting the mixed greens in the shade of the tomatoes. The littles are growing so fast, they should be ready for integration before too much longer. We're trying to feed the grow-out bunnies just on green fodder and no pellets, it seems to be working well so far. Fertilizing with the compost/plant tea today, I now have three five gallon buckets in rotation.

I bought a mix of three types. They control a number of pests. In particular, they help control SQUASH BUGS, cucumber beetles (a definite nemesis here), and Colorado potato beetle, to name the three I have known issue with.

Mix with water, water the soil. Keep moist (so I’ll add a straw mulch to help keep in the moisture). Not sure if they will over winter successfully -it would seem like they could but don’t know.

the nematodes attack the pest’s soil portion of their life cycle - usually the grub or egg phase of the life cycle.

Last year I had an all out war against squash bugs. It was bad... I also battled cucumber bugs and vine borers.

So far this year I've only seen two squash bugs, 1 cucumber bug, and NO vine borers at all... Instead I seem to have a problem with the Colorado Potato beetle. Never saw any of them last year but this year they have become obsessed with my eggplant

also just had my first tomato harvest, and the bush beans are almost ripe!

caught my girls eating some hornworms I didn't notice... they're better than pesticide!

Will try again! Pickling cucumber plants. And seeds…many indicated disease resistant to one thing or another. No, not likely to plant all varieties. But, can try some next year.

FWIW, I only bought 1/2 or less of the cucumber seed varieties still in the stores.

I usually plant cucumbers every 3-4 weeks. one dies and another grows.

The pup apparently ate my meyer lemon plant. It didn't grow at all anyway. I found out though because I have another pot in the same bay window with a dwarf pomegranate planned that has been doing pretty well. The pup ripped the plant out of the soil though and came around the couch with it in his mouth. I was furious. Roots were attached still so I quickly replanted it and am hoping for the best.

welcome to the club! last year my dog gave birth to 9 puppies. can you imagine what they did? lesson learned. dogs are fenced without any planters or small plants. a big olive tree, a few lemon trees and a few huge onamental bushes. they have their sofa bed on the front porch for their use only. and there is a storage room for them if it rains a lot. and I feel freeeeee!

OH you can kill carpenter bees. GO ahead! Destructive monsters, and wait until they go after the house or deck!

I mix a batch of warm water a cup of white vinegar, several drops of dawn dish soap and then some orange oil or lemon oil, citrus oil and spray away.

They're not a fan of citrus oil. The dawn lets it stick to whatever you spray it on.

I'll try that recipe. I sprayed with bee killer but I don't like using that stuff & it didn't help anyway! The spot is right above the windows & nest boxes so your recipe makes me feel better.

Not much going on in the garden, too hot, back to work & have an appt with the rheumatologist. I did spray the peppers with some epsom salts yesterday hoping to perk them up a bit. I'm going to try feeding them too, maybe that'll help. I just can't figure out why they aren't happy. Everything else could probably use a good feeding too.
