What did you do in the garden today?

Don't know how, but I'm behind again.

Dropped off about 6 baggies of hard boiled eggs in community fridge. Good thing. They only had a few heads of celery in the fridge part. Went to the chiropractor then got paint for the patio furniture. We're going to do chalkboard paint on the top which is not pictured.

Bought some clearance plants. I'll show you guys tomorrow. Rest up. Garden work to do tomorrow!

let it go over winterit will be huge
Seconded, I planted oregano in several beds last year and it was kinda spindly, but it all came roaring back this year and tried to take over the beds. It smelled awesome as I was pulling it out. :)
If you leave the oregano alone, it should grow like a weed. Careful your poultry doesn't eat it though
Is it dangerous? I hadn't heard that. I have some drying that I was going to use in the coop to help it smell nice.

I got the main run partitioned and the new hole cut in the floor of the littles portion of the coop with a trap door, so tomorrow we'll see if the little nit wits can figure it all out. I still need to make a bolt-hole door in their portion of the coop so I can start letting them mix with the big girls. Oh and I seriously believe that letting the big girls range during the day has increased their strength and vitality, once they are called into the run in the late afternoon, they are roosting on the highest beams of the run a lot more.

Google says that oregano, thyme, rosemary, sage, lavender, mint, lemongrass, basil. parsley, garlic and dill can all be fed to chickens. (farminence.com Dec. 9,2019)
www.fresheggsdaily.blog agrees that oregano is "so beneficial for laying or setting hens".
Backyardpoultry.iamcountryside.com says that oregano "is known to strengthen the immune system and is thought to help guard against common poultry illnesses such as salmonella, infectious bronchitis, avain flu and e-coli". (Feb. 24, 2020)

The cucumber seeds, zucchini seeds, cantaloupe seeds and green bean seeds are all sprouting! I just planted them a few days ago. We had off and on again rains today. Possibly more rain tomorrow and Wednesday. It's in the 80's all week with a climb into the low 90's on Friday and Saturday.
My rabbits are really enjoying all the weeds I am "growing for them" in my garden! :lau That's my story and I'm sticking to it! But they really do love them and I have lots of them 😒

My tomatoes are doing pretty well. I put tomato cages around most of the tomatoes. I have a tiny bit of lettuce sprouting ( I planted them the same day as the other seeds).
I still need a lot more dirt or compost ( preferably both) to fill the raised bed back up and to cover the potato plants in the regular garden that are growing like crazy! I'm going to break down and order some topsoil to be delivered.
someone mentioned their potato plants are flowering. So are mine! The red potatoes have purple flowers the "regular" potatoes have white flowers. I didn't ever get around to planting any sweet potatoes. ☹️

Also I don't know if I told everyone on this thread but my broody hen (who was broody WAY TOO LONG) finally hatched a chick, but only one. It hatched sometime last week while we were out of town. She is doing a great job taking care of it, but I do wish at least one other had hatched.

I've also been getting strawberries every few days. Sometimes as many as 4 cups worth!

I use oregano, thyme and basil when prepare chicken mash. it is very beneficial for them. but for some reason chickens rarely bother with oregano and thyme plants. maybe because their leaves are hard.

How do you make a dress form?

Where, or who, do you go to for the livestock auction? I wonder if theres one on my side?
I just googled “livestock auction near me” and came up with a few. At first, I was worried that something wouldn’t sell. But was assured everything sells. It’s true-everything I’ve brought sells. Usually large crowd. Convenience bc just go one place, deal with the auction company. I can buy things if I register. Will get cash if hang around for about 30 min after my animals sell, but can also leave and get the check in the mail. They even auction livestock items (like cages) and garden stuff. Large animals (pigs, horses, cows) are done on a different day.

Good morning gardeners. That is way too much heat for me @igorsMistress. When I was younger I could deal with the heat but after my second heart attack I learned to slow down and keep cool. This morning it was 78F when I got up so the windows were open for awhile. The humidity jumped up past 80% and I turned on the AC. Fingers crossed we get some thunder storms to break the heat a bit. I checked the corn this morning and something had cut 3 of the little stalks. They didn't nibble it, just cut it down. The tomatoes are responding to the warmer temps as are the summer squash. Although the squash plants are still on the small size so I may just direct sow some seed and see what happens. The remaining two bell pepper plants are really liking the warmer temps. They seemed to have doubled in size in the past few days. The shade cloth is still working for the lettuce so if they can hang on through today and tomorrow they can finish growing when the temperatures cool down. DD was "grillmaster" last night and made gluten free grilled pizza. This was the best GF pizza I have had so far. We tried Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free pizza dough mix and it was just as tasty as wheat based pizza dough. Tonight is Taco Tuesday to work on that smoked pork butt. Yum! I've not had a problem growing oregano here at all. The first oregano I planted was Greek oregano. It overwintered a very bitterly cold winter. Last Spring I planted Italian oregano. That got off to a slow start but it did overwinter and is looking quite well now. The parsley, thyme and lavender are also doing well. The chives are still a bit slower but improving somewhat. The chickens don't bother with the herbs at all so that makes me happy. They don't bother with the pots of mint I have either. This year my basil is struggling. I've never had this problem before. I took pictures of the roses and one red peony this morning.

Well, there’s heat and then there’s humidity. I can’t handle both together for sure. When the heat is on like it is now I stay inside as much as possible after about 8 or 9 in the morning. Once the sun is almost down it’s not quite as bad.
Beautiful flowers, I love peonies but they don’t do well here.

Here are my clearance plants: snowball bush, burning bush shrub, petite rose bush, and I'm 99% sure the other 2 are azaleas. I'm.leaning towards putting all in containers for now, but it looks like the first 2 can get huge, so I'll probably find a spot for them by the deck later. We have to clear some stuff out first. Otherwise, one of the guys would mow them down. I just know it:) plus we need to spray some vines, etc. I have some sulfur and LOTS of pine needles for the azaleas. Also got some mixed sedum for the flower bed. Dottie had better leave it alone.

Any hints about any of these would be appreciated. I'm in zone 7a. The house faces East/West.
