What did you do in the garden today?

I went to a State park and picked blackberries from 10 AM till 1:30. In a few days the place will be overflowing with ripe berries. Today I had to work hard to find some ripe ones. I’m going to check again on Sunday evening when I get off work.
In the garden I pulled a bucket of wild strawberry plants. They are trying to overtake my domestic strawberries. The rabbits always love when I pull them up because they get to eat them. 🤣
Oh, and I have 3 or 4 cherry tomatoes starting to ripen!
We had that in florida too, but with blueberries. Hardly anyone knew you could go do it. Only catch was, you had to carry bear mace, a bear bell and register when you went into the park.

I'd love to know what flowers you have planted around your gardens to make these types of bouquets. I recognize some of them, but not all of them. I'm currently making a "wish list" of flowers I'd like to plant around the property to create bouquets like the ones you've posted. I've already planted two different types of lilacs, double tuberose, peonies, and have seeds for others like columbine, marshmallow, zinnias, daisies, cosmos, farewell-to-spring.

I am quite new, in fact just started this year to more seriously plan the cut flower patch in the garden. I don't have a specific area, as what I want are: providing more food for bees and supplying the bouquets I want to arrange for our own house, family and few neighbors.

One good thing to know in advance, in my opinion, is to realize which flowers will blossom when, and how long they will last. Also it will be nice to have a basic color combination you prefer in mind. To be honest, strong colors like yellow, orange are more difficult for me to arrange, but I still planted some just in case I want to have different atmosphere.

I did read some books about cut flowers, they are also helpful to build proper understanding. I myself learned the most from looking plants with new perspective, then suddenly even weeds can play some roles in a bouquet.

My garden is quite big, and previous owners planted also a lot. It's a house that non-gardening-lovers will never consider to buy :p After moving in, I planted a lot of perennials like tulip, daffodil, a lot of roses, peonies, yarrows, iris, lilies and this year I added Lilacs, Dahlias, Aster, Astilbe and Hydrangea. For the annuals, I sowed zinnias, cosmos, marigolds, sunflowers, sweet peas in late spring and transplanted them after frost danger is passed.

Besides, I bought some mixed wild flower seeds to create some patches for bees, but there will be some surprises always like cornflowers, ox-eye daisy, smaller sun flowers.

Well, it's a lot of fun and we can always start with what we already had, and add further elements along the way. :love

One thing I have learned through gardening:

Gardens reward patience.

You might not get what you wanted, but in its place, you'll get a valuable lesson. Although sometimes, it's hard to figure out what that lesson is...
Yes, absolutely, this year I learned a concept that i like very much - quality of patience.

Life can be taken as the soil for us to grow within, if I will explain things in a gardening way, every day our roots are going a bit more for finding nutrients we need, and most of good things have no quick solutions.

Good morning gardeners. I made a lot of progress on the coop extension yesterday. I do need some more 2 x 3's so will be heading out for a shopping trip soon. I anticipate moving the littles outside tomorrow finally! We are enduring Tropical Storm Elsa right now. So far no high winds expected, just rain, rain and more rain. I did a walk around the garden in spite of the heavy rain. The corn is seriously growing unevenly. One stalk is over 2 feet tall and pushing towards 3 feet while the majority of the stalks are 12 to 18 inches tall. I put some bamboo sticks in with the beans plants that were taller than their corn stalk partners. The summer squash plants are getting bigger and still trying to bloom in the rain. The really happy news are the baby green beans I found growing with the cucumber plants. The figs and the peaches are looking promising as well. :fl I'm so looking forward to reclaiming my sunroom and being able to relax a bit before canning time.
